Mamaw was up and at it this morning—working, working, working in the yard. It’s a good thing too! The grounds people came along and put nice black dirt in all of those holes the winter made. They’ve put grass seed in there too—and it’s supposed to rain on Saturday so that will be a good thing. Anyway, she was really committed to getting that done.
But then I got to go on a walk with her. The weather is so nice and I just sort of smelled things along the way…but coming back, she made me speed up so she could get some good active exercise. And now I am bone tired! Mamaw told me to “just rest” cause I’m getting a bath this afternoon.
I knew the moment it was bath time. Here came Mamaw with towels, shampoo and a smile on her face. I wasn’t so sure about all of that! Okay Mamaw—why the smile? Ya aren’t gonna hurt me are ya? Will this take a long time? Why isn’t my Poppy here? No answers—the water is running in the tub. She’s trying to catch me to take my collar off—and when that happens I KNOW FOR SURE IT IS BATH TIME. It’s always a hoot and I’m pretty darned good. This time though, she lined the bathroom floor with towels and shut the door. She got the shammy all wet and rung out. Now for God’s sake—would you take a shammy to a dog? You’d think I was her car or something! Ummm—it feels good though so I’m not gonna complain. She scratches my back and talks lovingly to me all of the time. I just can’t disappoint her by being naughty…Okay, time to get out of the tub. And that is when I do the dog shake—water is everywhere. She doesn’t care cause she lined the bathroom floor with the towels. The shammy works great—the blow dryer works great. I’m tryin to catch the heat from the dryer in my mouth and Mamaw just laughs and laughs. I LOVE to hear her laugh. Okay, as dry as I will allow her to get me so she shoves me into the kennel to finish drying.
And SHE LEAVES…now, what do ya think about that? I think it’s kind of a crummy thing to do personally. Oh, but here comes Poppy. He went to the golf course to hit some balls and see how bad it’s really goin to be this year. I’m glad he’s here—I’m out of the kennel, on the couch with him and I’m happy. She’s back…now she says we have to brush. I always give her a bad time with that. I don’t mind my back being brushed but I do not like my ears and legs brushed. I fight her all the way. She’s gotten in the habit of hand feeding me; which I really like. But as soon as I get the nibble—I try to get away from her. It usually ends up being a bit of tug-of-war before we are finished. (ugh)
She’s very tired but what does she do? She takes the new deck table and chairs out on the lower deck. She hooked me up to my “dog catcher” cable and expected me to play. Well, I found the sedum she has growing there and I began to feast on it. That wasn’t a good thing to do. Mamaw tried everything to get me moving—she brought out a Frisbee; didn’t work. She brought out a ball; didn’t work. So the three of us just hung out there a little while just enjoying the day.
Oh my God! Not ANOTHER WALK…I’m tired. Oh, she thinks she needs the exercise—she’s not happy she isn’t losing the weight faster than she is. Well I hope she doesn’t plan on killing me off in the meantime. I’ll love her even if she doesn’t lose any more. Too tired to do anything else…it’s bedtime for me!
