Good morning America…the sun is shining. I’ve been outside…I’ve eaten…I’ve been loved by Poppy and Mamaw—what more could I want?
Poppy is bringing a plastic chair to the kitchen. He has a box with some tools in it and a big cloth! He is putting the cloth around Mamaw’s neck—NO Poppy; don’t hurt her!! Oh Miss Scarlett, Poppy is going to give Miss Andi a haircut this morning. Well, I was really worried so you can bet I’m gonna sit right there and make sure she’s okay. I hear click, click, click and Mamaw isn’t crying or yelling so I guess it’s okay. I’m very interested in watching though, cause as he works away, they discuss their plans for some work on the house and going on a road trip tomorrow. When the haircut was finished, Poppy cleaned up after himself and Mamaw swept up the floor and fixed her hair—looks nice…good job Poppy!
They fixed breakfast and shared that, catching up on a couple more things. They work well together cause they just pitch in and help if asked and stay out of the way if not needed. I like that…
Mamaw is getting towels, and a shammy, and my shampoo—guess I’m getting a bath today. Well, I knew for sure that was true when she started running water in the bathtub and took my collar off. Well she does a great job with my bath and I never mind. I never get soap in my eyes and we laugh and have a really good time. I think Mamaw has a wonderful sense of humor and that helps with the bad stuff too. Into the tub I go. She lifts the shower fixture from the wall and runs water through that thing. I love to chase the water with my mouth or try to chase the water. It’s never too hot or never too cold—just perfect. She always “tests” the water with her elbow. I asked her why she does that and she said that’s what she always did for her children at bath time. I asked her what kind of shampoo she is using on me as she lathers and lathers me and rubs my back—Oh Lord; that feels WONDERFUL! She says the shampoo is very important—she got it from Ashworth Animal Hospital and it is allergenic. So, taking her time and telling me how good I am and how sweet I am, she goes after each part of my body—but gently. Okay, I’m all lathered up and look like hell. Whew—she’s turning on the shower hose water again. She gently moves that thing back and forth, back and forth, until my body is free of soap.
She tries to gently get me on the towel on the floor but I squirm away and shake, rattle and roll. Well, that’s a Dog Thing, don’t you know. And, that’s exactly why she shuts the door so we keep the mess in one room. After I’ve done my shaking, she grabs the shammy and started rubbing me everywhere. Every now and then she would wring the water out and begin the procedure again. When she thinks I’m good enough, she opens the door and I run to the living room—here she comes with the blow dryer. We play and I chase the hot air and we have fun…
But, poor Mamaw. Now she had to clean up that mess. You can just imagine how much work there is to do then. So she puts me in the kennel to finish drying and she does the cleaning. I hope she’ll rest a little before she brushes me and then we brush my teeth cause people: listen to me…that is work! And Mamaw is old!
She’s gonna run do some errands for herself and for Poppy then she’s comin back for me. Yep, we went for a nice walk around the complex and returned home. I think she thought she could tire me out so she could brush me but that’s my least favorite thing! She really needs to read some of Mother Knows Best and figure out what she is doing wrong. (wink) I make her hand feed me while she scrambles to get the job done. It about does her all in I can tell ya!
Gotta finish the laundry now. You see, it just never ends. I went to the basement with her and stole a dryer sheet and ran back upstairs. When she got hold of me, she grabbed my collar and steered me right into the kennel saying, “Bad dog.” Guess it’s time out for now…
