Freedom Rock, Greenfield, IA

This trip was spent "On the Road Again," listening to Willy Nelson and drivin down the highway like we were big shots!

We had heard so much about this little place and the huge 8 ton rock that a graphic designer out of Des Moines started painting patriotic art on because every time he drove by the rock, there were "dirty words" on it.  Well, that's what Mamaw says the history is all about.

And so Mr. Sorenson began painting and people came...and he painted over it and painted it with another patriotic art piece and people came.  And this goes on and on.  They have a shelter-type thing there where each of his paintings is displayed for people to look at.  It is really such a neat thing to see...and neat that somebody would honor our military in this way.

We drove on into town and found their photography business and low and behold, there was this rock painted right in that parking lot.  Mr. John Wayne caught my Mamaw's attention--and isn't it something?

And then in the lower photo, he painted his van as the American Flag...now talk about patriotic!

It was such a marvelous day and there is no way I can begin to post enough photos of Mr. Sorenson's work to do justice to it.

Driving around the town, we also found the sides of some buildings that he had also painted.  If you haven't traveled to see this, it is a must.  A bucket list item!

I asked Mamaw to put a couple of links here for you
to check out with more and more of this fabulous guy's
work!http://thefreedomrock.blogspot.com/
(This is their blog--you might want to save the link to check out from time to time.)

Yep, it was definitely another HOT DAY!  Wonder why we always go on the hot ones?  Oh, I remember now, it had rained "dogs and cats" the day before and that's when we really wanted to go.

I see myself as a very lucky and special cocker spaniel to get to go on these road trips with Mamaw and Poppy and I'm learnin a lot!

KCCI TV did an interview with this young man so we've put that link here for you also.  His wife put his name in a contest for "Best Husband" AND HE WON!
