When I got up this morning, I heard Mamaw and Poppy talking about takin “a road trip” over to Greenfield, IA where the Patriotic Rock is.
And that’s when the s*** hit the fan! “Outside Scarlett,” Mamaw says. I’m not very interested in THAT—especially not after what she and Bark Busters put me through yesterday. So I’m hangin back, I’m not gonna even look at her and I’m especially not going to give her kisses today! I never worked so hard in all my life as I did yesterday. Mamaw is not the same…that’s sad.
Well, she kinda got to me then and so with special collar and longer leash she encouraged me to do as asked. I did it (not as good as she wants me to) but I did it to please her. It seems I can’t rush out the door ahead of her anymore—even when I have to pee really bad! Well, okay—did that. Then she wanted to take me on a walk and that is when I put my foot down. I flopped on the concrete and no matter how many times she said “come” or pull on the leash—well, I wasn’t goin anywhere. Poppy observed this whole procedure and then they talked about it. They are going to try a new approach—Poppy said, “Let’s work on it door situation and then you and Miss Scarlett just enjoy your walks the way you have been.” She brings me back to the house—we exchange collars and leash—and out the door we go. I’m so happy now…I get to smell the grass and look around and Mamaw is happy too. I’m still getting the “good girl” from her. Wonder what tomorrow will bring?
It is pouring down rain—I mean POURING DOWN RAIN. We’re gonna wait and see if it slows down before we head out on any road trip. It’s not gonna settle—we’ll be too late to go—let’s just cool it for now. Well, wouldn’t ya know—it quit late afternoon but it was too late to go cause Mamaw and Poppy are goin to go help Betty. Poppy took lenses to try to see if he can make her see better so she can read. Now there’s a gal that loves to read! And, it appears as though he can help her so she’s real excited about that. And Mamaw puts her through the paces of what they call “her extra PT.” Alan Dale was there too so they all had a nice visit.
But the nicest visit of all was when Mamaw asked the nurse if a well-behaved cocker spaniel named Miss Scarlett O’Hara could come to the 8th floor veranda and visit Miss Betty. Well, she said, “Bring her vaccination papers for her records and she can even come into the room.” When they got home and told me that, I wasn’t as disappointed about giving up our road trip. (tail wag) I’ll be seein you soon, Miss Betty.
