Today I am going for a long ride in the car? You’re probably asking, “How does she know that”? Well, Poppy told me so, that’s how. I knew the grooming yesterday was for a reason but Lord way to wear me out! It all started with a quick outside trip. Then clothes are flying everywhere. It isn’t easy around here when Mamaw and Poppy are both trying to get read at the SAME TIME! We managed—I stayed out of the way. Believe me—I stayed out of the way. Then it’s time to pack my bag, my kennel and this procedure takes quite some thinking…

The car is running, outside we go, and I go pee and get on Mamaw’s lap, she buckles up and AWAY WE GO! I’m all wide awake and sitting on her lap checking out the scenery. The sun is shining, we’re all in a good mood—Poppy has his coffee and Mamaw her diet, caffeine free Mountain Dew and it is just a great day! It takes a very long time to drive to Fonda, IA to see Mom so I decide maybe I’ll just lie down for a while.

Poppy needs a Coke—we stop in a little town named Churdan at the Short Stop. He goes in to get his drink and Mamaw thinks I should get out of the car to see if I need a potty break. Well, I always try to amuse her and get the “atta girls” so I went for her. Then Willy Nelson started singing, “On the Road Again” and we were—literally.

Aw—Fonda. We thought it was going to be a wonderful experience, but as we were headed to the door, Feddie was coming out with a HUGE, BLACK DOG! Poppy says he’s a Labrador. Anyway, he definitely did not like me and he went right after me. Oh my God, help me somebody! Mamaw—get him off me! Poppy, oh Poppy do something! I’m scared shitless I tell ya—shitless! The whole episode couldn’t have lasted more than a couple of minutes but the time seemed endless to me…Finally, he’s in the backyard (tied up and what a good thing that is) and I’m in the house. Now, Mom is going to be 91 in a couple of weeks so I gotta be careful with her. The thing I like best about her is she always has Kleenex on the floor and in her hand—that’s one of my favorite things you know. At lunch time, Mom dropped a green bean on the floor and you can bet I was on that like flies on honey!

And then, on the road again—to Fort Dodge. Oh good, we’re going to go see Reggie and I know she likes me! She did wonderful scrap booking of me at different stages of my growth. It is absolutely picture perfect! As the afternoon went on, here came Miss Cathy and later Jon the Jock. We visited for a while and I was soooo good even they couldn’t believe it. Then I saw Poppy bring in my kennel. I wondered why we had to bring that thing along, but now I see…they want to go to Third Base and see old friends for a drink and I can’t go. Reggie said, “Oh, you don’t need to put her in the kennel, we’ll watch her.” I knew my best behavior was required or I’d be in BIG trouble! I was good—got lots of brownie points too!

They are back—and hear all of the wonderful comments about me and Mamaw is so proud! She’s the primary trainer you know…. Kurt is home (he was having a haircut) and Poppy said he wanted to take us for chicken. Just one problem with that—when he said “us”—he didn’t mean me. So now I am in the kennel. Well, that didn’t last for too long and they were back—good thing cause I am a popped puppy! On the road again and headed home. I can hardly hold my head up but every now and then, I raise my head to look around. When we get home, Poppy brings in my kennel and trust me—I’m ready for bed. Goodnight Mamaw, Goodnight Poppy—had a great day!
