Poppy’s birthday today! She goes into the office and kisses him on top of the head and hands him a really mushy card. For God’s sakes, she sees him every day! But for some reason, Poppy seemed to really like it too. So I guess I’ll just keep my mouth shut.
More storms in the night. It seems like they hit about the same time every night too! Mamaw dumped another 1 ½” out of the rain gauge. And Cary from Petersen Painting is supposed to come and unstuck the windows so she can clean them. Well, as it turns out, he didn’t come until 2:30 in the afternoon! She was hot—in more ways than one.
She did get disgusted at one point and we went on a nice walk. And I tell you, humans or people or whatever YOU call them, are stupid. I said stupid! We walk along minding our own business and whether it’s a skateboarder, runner or bicycler, they never move over onto the grass for us. Mamaw gets irked over the whole thing too, cause she makes me SIT and WAIT until they are past so they know I am not a danger to them. How can we teach you people some manners anyhow?
Cary is here—now we’ll get to work. He discovers more wrong than he initially thought so as he works around all of that, Mamaw is taking the screens out of those windows and taking them outside to hose off. She asked if I wanted to go out too but I was scared cause I thought she might drown me out there. I watched from inside. And so one by one, each of the other windows left to wash got properly washed and dried and screens replaced. The BAD NEWS: we have to leave the living room window ajar cause Cary caulked around the windows and it need to dry. Okay, it is 5:30 and Mamaw is finally finished!
She sits down in her chair and is breathing really hard—her face is very, very red. I’m worried she might have a heart attack! I’m praying Poppy will get home from work soon and help me take care of her. She never learns—she just pushes herself until she gets the whole thing done, no matter how exhausted she is. I lay right beside her—watching her and listening to her breathing. Well, it finally slows down just before Poppy walks in the door but trust me—I was keeping an eye on that door to the garage. When he comes in, birthday or not, he could see that she had over-done things. He decided they just wouldn’t go out tonight but wait until sometime later. I was thankful for that!
A few hours later, they fixed a turkey breast sandwich and just relaxed from then on. Now I need to get myself settled down too.
