I think Mamaw is goin to take up permanent residency at the doctor’s office. Poppy took her yesterday to get an x-ray—she got good news, and bad news. The bad news is they found a hairline fracture of the “tallis” of her foot. The good news is that he will consult with the orthopedic people but thinks we can just keep on doin what we’re doin.

When they got back home, she was just exhausted. The x-ray technician wasn’t at Dr. Caughlin’s office in the afternoon so they had to go over to another office to get the pictures taken. And Mamaw says it is just exhaustin to drag that leg around.

She’s either layin on the waterbed icing her foot or elevating her foot way up in the air! I can’t even reach that far…but Poppy keeps telling me I gotta be gentle with her.

Poppy made a “special” breakfast-brunch for them when they got home and Mamaw just loved it. That makes Poppy feel so good to know that he’s been helping out. He’s even been takin me outside most of the time so she doesn’t have to “fuss with that.”

We’re all discouraged about now…wantin better things to come our way. Poppy went to the store—I wonder if he’ll buy a lottery ticket. They said the $$$ is up there real high again and wouldn’t that be great to win? Don’t see that happenin…

March 22, 2011

I think I shared with ya about how scared I was the day Mamaw fell on the deck and hurt herself. That’s been over two weeks now—and she’s still havin some real issues with that! Poppy says she’s gonna have to go to the doctor and get an x-ray to find out what’s wrong…he gets disgusted with her for puttin stuff off too long.

And she always worries about everybody but herself. A good example of that is I just can’t relax—I’m so high strung right now I just can’t seem to manage my own life. I don’t want to go outside (had an accident in the house and that’s a real NO-NO.) So she called Miss Jessica, my very own veterinarian, and they talked about givin me a little happy pill for a while to help me through this transitional period of my paranoia. So she gets herself all duded up with the jewelry and the whole bit and goes to pick up a prescription for me.

Now—get this—she has to take the Rx to HyVee to get it filled. Are they putting me on HUMAN pills or what? I sure hope they won’t hurt me cause I’m really feelin the need to get some special TLC right now! She comes home with the medicine and gave me one; then she heaved a huge sigh of relief…frankly, I did too.

I gotta stick to my favorite sayin: Oh well, tomorrow is another day…we’ll see what happens then.

March 18, 2011

Bear with me, I'm gonna try to make your day.  Mamaw is just in awful shape and can barely get around.  I am so bored and so I'm gonna try to cheer us all up today.

Hope ya all wore your green yesterday.  She wore her Notre Dame green T-shirt and she was damned proud of it too!

Okay--here we go:

Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
(1) eat less,
(2) don't ask for money all the time,
(3) are easier to train,
(4) normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car,
(6) don't hang out with drug-usin people,
(7) don't smoke or drink,
(8) don't want to wear your clothes -- there I have to disagree...I managed to wear her boy shorts one day,
(9) don't have to buy the latest fashions,
(10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and
(11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Now--my paws have taken a beating gettin this done for ya all so ENJOY!

March 11, 2011

Things just keep gettin worse for Mamaw!  This morning when she took me outside to go potty (in her nightgown and slippers) she slipped on the icy front deck and fell "ass over appetite."  I was just gettin ready to do my thing and I saw her go down so I ran right up to her--all worried about her.  And Poppy was worried too--she was in real pain right away but she said, "Oh my God Poppy, I didn't show my name and address to everybody going by did I?"  Her ankle swelled up right away and she HURT HER BACK AGAIN!!!

There's still that matter of the stitch so she forced herself to sit while Poppy tried to get hold of it to pull it out.  He couldn't see the darned thing without magnification so he said if she could make it to Valley West sometime today; he would get it then.  She was thinkin, well crap--if I gotta get all cleaned up she'd just see about goin back to the dermotologist.  She called--they could take it out at 2:00 so she spent the rest of the mornin getting ready.  It had to be agonizing for her but she absolutely insisted on it.

She left me long enough to go and came right home.  She got a glass of water and a pain pill...she was in and out the rest of the day.  When Poppy got home she put the gate up and went to bed.  She didn't even take that damned e-reader with her.  I was Poppy's buddy all night and never did make it to my kennel.

March 7-10, 2011 (Mamaw's week from hell)

We got up on the 7th and Mamaw was IN A BAD WAY!  Her back was killin her...but she begged for a haircut--Poppy's just too busy workin.  She made it through that and Poppy said he'd best call the doctor for Mamaw.  He did--they went--she came home and went straight to bed.  Poppy would "fetch" the medicine later in the day.

And here she is...with the stitch on her upper lip from her surgery.
She's supposed to go back to get the stitch out today but as you can
see, she's still DOWN AND OUT!  I said, "Poppy, I don't think she can keep her appointment today."  Poppy replied, "Yep--we're gonna have to cancel it for now.

March 6, 2011

It’s Sunday—what’s wrong with this picture? Mamaw is up and gussied up BEFORE WE GO OUTSIDE! She hung around with me outside till I was able to get #1 and #2 done…but she’s havin some trouble walkin and bendin—I think she’s in pain. I’m gonna watch out for her—so I didn’t pull on the leash or anything—I promise I WAS GOOD!

Back in the house I got a little attention but I’d say not so much. I smell a rat…she didn’t even go to the office and call me in there to write the blog. Somethin definitely different. She did sit and drink a cup of tea though.

Before long her cell phone starts ringin—and it was three times in a row. While she was putting her coat on she grabbed a Diet Mountain Dew from the fridge and her purse as she headed out the door. I didn’t get any sort of a goodbye out of her. I looked at Poppy with all kinds of questions and he told me she was goin to the Fonda Nursing Home with Lori and Brianne to see Alma. (She Poppy’s mom—why didn’t he go?) Poppy said, “I have to go to work today so they’re gonna go in my place.” Made sense to me… “Oh Poppy—don’t go to work and leave me alone,” I said but he informed me he has to work so I can have my good eats and wonderful haircuts and all the “special” things I get around here.

So I laid on the bed with sad eyes watchin Poppy prepare himself for work. I love that guy and I sure hope he has time to give me the wonderful belly rub—maybe two times before he leaves cause I know when he puts me in the kennel I’m there till either Mamaw or he comes to get me. It cramps my style—havin to wait on them. I’m an independent red-head and I love my freedom. Just not today so much!

March 5, 2011

Been thinkin all day bout whether I want to share some stuff with ya but Poppy said I might as well just say it! Mamaw laid down some NEW COMMANDMENTS for me to follow:
1. Thou shalt not chew on Poppy’s favorite quilt;
2. Thou shalt not steal Kleenex from the garbage containers;
3. Thou shalt not steal Mamaw’s underwear from the dirty clothes basket;
4. Thou shalt not steal Poppy’s handkerchiefs from his dirty clothes basket;
5. Thou shalt not steal Poppy’s underwear from his dirty clothes basket;
6. Thou shalt not try to be the ‘boss of the house’’
7. Thou shalt not ‘nip’ at Mamaw or Poppy FOR ANY REASON;
8. Thou shalt not be ungrateful;
9. Thou shalt not complain;
10. Thou shalt not chew on my “jewelry.”

I’d better explain about my jewelry—Mamaw says I’m beautiful with it on; I want to chew on it. I had my haircut the other day don’t ya know and I look so beautiful now! And just the day of my haircut (she calls it groomin); she read in the Des Moines Register about two dogs that had been lost. Well, she’s been very lax about my tags so the next day after my haircut, she put my leather collar on with my name and address on it. Then she got all my tags and Poppy put them on my collar too—just in case I’d get lost or anything.

March 4, 2011

I feel a little chilly with my spring haircut. The weather was so nice and then it got down-right cold! Course I don’t let that interfere with my gettin to see Ozzie or stickin my nose in the ground to gather the smells. I think it should be a law that puppy dogs have to be allowed to smell all that stuff for at least an hour a day—I’d settle for half an hour mornin—and half an hour afternoon.

Mamaw is bein real quiet around here—Poppy is restin. She doesn’t make a lot of noise so she doesn’t disturb him so she spent time doin “nutin honey.” I rested with him—that haircut just wore me out. Do ya know it takes Miss LeAnn four hours to do me? And I gotta stand a long time…

Early evening before dark I saw Ozzie and Miss Becky out. We were already out—way down near the end of the town homes and when I saw him I DRAGGED HER ALONG—I couldn’t get there fast enough. They both let us off leash and did we ever have a wonderful time. I’d chase him and then he’d turn around and chase me. Guess we do have spring fever after all. They were real good to us and let us  play for quite a while. And when we got back to the house—I WAS TIRED!

March 3, 2011

I get to have Poppy ALL DAY TODAY! And then I found out I was “dead wrong.” He had to go to the office at Valley West on ‘business’ for a little while.

And I’ve decided I’m such a “big girl” now I don’t need to go out to potty half a dozen times a day so I’m workin on trainin Mamaw. She hasn’t caught on yet though…she asks me if I need to go out and even brings the leash my way so I have to run away from her to train her. Anybody have any better suggestion for me? I don’t like hurtin her feelins and sometimes she gets MAD at me.

They headed off to the grocery store—again without me; they don’t allow dogs unless they are helping their blind masters. When they came back they had TONS of food again! It’s hard to believe what they do with all of that! I asked Mamaw and she said she was havin surgery on that cyst later today and she might have “to hide in the house for a while so she wanted to make sure we had food.” Good Lord!

She didn’t even both to let me out of the kennel when they got home. She went potty and gave no thought to the fact that I MIGHT HAVE TO GO (I didn’t—but still it’s the thought that counts.” All of a sudden she goes to the coat closet and gets my “short leash”—yep, I’m goin someplace. Let’s hope it’s a ride—I’m getting kinda bored here…

March 2, 2011

No Poppy—don’t go to work! I think Mamaw is still disgusted with me and I don’t want to be alone with her! “Suck it up,” Poppy said.  Turned out not to be so bad after all. She washed two loads of clothes and I didn’t offer to help her—and she didn’t ask for help either. It’s been pretty darned quiet here too…

And then I THREW UP! I wanted to tell her it was her fault cause she started me on that
omega-6 the vet suggested to help the itching. They are longgg pills and she tries to trick me into thinkin I’m getting treats FOR NOTHIN, but Mamaw didn’t raise no dummy. I hung my head again…sorry Mamaw. She was very good about it though; grabbed a towel out of the bathroom to put under my chin to protect the carpeting so I was thankful for that—she was too. Then she sat with me a long time to make sure I was gonna be okay—I really liked that. Nothin better than havin someone “there for ya” if you get what I mean? When I went in my kennel she picked up the towel and went on with her day.

By 11:30 no more eruptions so she slipped over and closed my kennel and off she went. She said, “Miss Scarlett—I’m so proud of myself I didn’t give up on this novel and now that it is completed, I’m treating myself to an afternoon doing something I want to do. She did…she was smiling when she came home.

Poppy walked in the door a little early tonight and surprised both of us. I always get so excited cause I know it’s belly rub time—once in the morning and once at night. I’m available for more if he wants to give em to me.

Again no waterbed. Since I hadn’t felt very well all day I spent lots of time in my kennel; and that’s just alright. When she wanted to take that damned e-reader and go back to the waterbed, she just closed up my kennel and said, “Good night Beautiful—I’ll see you in the morning” and off she went!

March 1, 2011 -- In like a lamb...

My folks got up with big smiles on their faces. I wondered what caused that so I asked. Poppy said, “March came in like a lamb…”  So what? Who cares? I’m just waitin for SPRING to get here.
Then Mamaw said, “and goes out like a LION.” She hopes not—Poppy hopes not—AND I SURE TO HOPE NOT!

I got some pretty serious treatment today. I’m still not out of the doghouse over that “nippin” crap. I can assure you there was no waterbed again tonight. And she wanted to go on one of her walks today. When she got all bundled up and stuck those IPod buds in her ears I KNEW. She grabbed the leash and invited me to go—forget it! She just shoved my butt in the kennel and without looking back out the door she went.

The middle of the day when I saw Ozzie out with his new caretaker, I carried on and carried on and she wouldn’t take me out. I thought she needed to get a little bit of her own thoughtlessness—that’s why I refused to walk with her.

February 28, 2011

Poppy got up at his usual early time and Mamaw and me stayed in bed. I remembered in the night there was some commotion so I stayed put till SHE gave me the go ahead. When she rolled out—I just laid there…waitin for permission. Her eyes were blazin and shootin fire at me so I was wishin I had a hole to climb into—maybe even my kennel.

She didn’t say a word to me—that’s bad. And she didn’t pet and love me like she usually does—THAT’S BAD. When she got her clothes on and left the bedroom, I followed her. In the living room I got my lecture. Bad dog—you are not the boss of this house—that was so naughty. And then I thought I heard Poppy say, “We have to begin doin things a different way.” I wasn’t sure I knew what he meant BUT I DIDN’T ASK!!!

It was a horrible day. I got very little attention and I got thrown in the slammer all morning and I can’t remember why. She got busy on her laptop and I was totally ignored…

February 27, 2011

Mamaw has a problem his mornin and she’s havin trouble gettin out of bed. She can’t stand up straight cause her lower back is just killing her. When she tried to bend down to pick up my leash, she had terrible pain. She finally decided to just open the door and see if I would go out—I did. It was a necessity! Looks like no fun for us today…take somethin to help Mamaw—please?

Poppy had to go to work and I really hated that cause I was hopin at least there would be somebody I could play with—maybe even use my “tug” with but no such luck.  Poppy had gone to get gas and picked up the Sunday Register for her cause he thought it was Monday. She laughed cause it is only Sunday and now we have two papers…funny.  Poppy had said, “No, it’s Monday and I’m thankful to have another work day out of the way.” Mamaw stood her ground and finally he got it! They are so funny—I love to watch their interaction. They kinda have a rule around here—they say NO YIPPING (I guess that means no fightin). It’s all good folks…it’s all good.

It’s been very, very quiet. When she tried to make the bed she shut the door on me as she said, “I can’t mess with your antics this morning, Scarlett. I just need to get this done.” That set the stage for the entire day.

February 26, 2011

It was dark when I had to get up—didn’t want to. I was still sleepin when she came around my way. I’ve learned I’d best get out to go and back though cause I never know what that woman is up to. Wonder how Poppy has managed her all these years—I’ll bet it’s a secret; don’t you?

Poppy started BOTH CARS and I didn’t see her gettin my bag outta the coat closet so I suspected this didn’t include me. I went in the kennel like a good girl cause I really WAS tired from our trip yesterday. They left—no television playin or nothing—dead silence. So then I have to listen to all that traffic goin up and down 50th Street with their loud noises.

She came back but didn’t let me out of the kennel so then I KNEW SOMETHING DIFFERENT WAS HAPPENIN TODAY! She just got some stuff around and before long I heard a horn blarin outside and off she went. No goodbye, no kiss and no kiss my butt!

February 25, 2011

I can’t believe Mamaw was up so early this morning—BEFORE DAYLIGHT! That’s a big change so course I begin to wonder what’s happenin…didn’t take long to find out.

Poppy hit the shower—Mamaw hit the shower—they both come out looked good enough to eat! Then I got out—and I mean OUT. I had to go BAD!! When we were outside I could just smell something different in the air—like; maybe a “road trip.” They tried to play it cool though so as not to get me “all shook up.” Poppy left for a while and when he got back, Mamaw went to that special coat closet and pulled out my bag. I ran right over to her cause I wanted to ask “THE QUESTION.” There was no need for that; she’s putting a container of food and a bottle of water in my bag AND I KNEW—did ya hear me? I KNEW! Poppy brought my extra kennel up and up it in his car.

It wasn’t Willie Nelson singin On the Road Again but it didn’t matter one way or the other to me. I WAS IN THE CAR! I WAS GOIN SOMEPLACE! I’M WITH MAMAW AND POPPY! Life just can’t get better than that~

February 24, 2011

I got up this morning and Hey—I feel better! I know just how Mamaw feels when she says, “You don’t realize how sick you are till you’re better.” Amen to that Mamaw—AMEN.

Poppy invited his Sweetie out for breakfast. They haven’t done that in a long time but I think they wanted to talk without having “EARS” around to hear.

As a result of feelin better, Poppy is on the phone, on his email program—well folks—he’s EVERYWHERE! Get it? He doesn’t have to work today! Mamaw and me are just goin to enjoy him ALL DAY!

February 23, 2011

Last week the weather was so wonderful, I nearly DIED when I heard the weatherman tell us we’re getting snow—and colder weather. Mamaw and I both said CRAP at the same time…well, it is what it is and it isn’t even March 1st yet so…

Mamaw is so tricky sometimes she gets by with it—BUT NOT TODAY! She managed to get the drops in one ear and then I just got irate with her. She tried to put my muzzle on and she found out that didn’t work so she waited till I was cuddled up next to her to get the other ear. I hope this is over soon.

Poppy wants to go to Mason City on Friday but with snow we don’t know what to do. Course I wouldn’t be able to go anyway—I have to go back to see Miss Jessica about my ears. But Poppy says Mason City is “a different breed of cat” where the weather is concerned. He says don’t ever count on it—if they say a little snow—IT COULD BE A LOT! He’s thinking…she’s waitin to see what kind of arrangements she’ll have to make for me.

The book is takin a LOT OF TIME NOW! She’s doin research on how to write a synopsis and how to submit material to publishers—she says it’s a lot of work and ya have to be thinking all the time.

It was pizza and coke for dinner last night. Smelled so good and I tried to get my teeth latched on to Poppy’s piece but he caught me before I could manage that. The house is pretty quiet so we just enjoyed that for the entire evening. I just ended up in my own bed for the night.

February 22, 2011

Gosh, it seems like just yesterday it was Mamaw’s birthday and here we are almost to the end of another month! Course when ya don’t feel good you just try to sleep part of that away. My ears have been such a horrible, long experience—I hope Miss Jessica releases me this Friday so I can go on with living. We aren’t spending much time outside cause she doesn’t want me digging my nose into the ground, or rollin around on the ground or anything—just the bare necessities so I’m kinda bored.

And I miss Mr. Ozzie too. Mamaw thinks it’s good though that she made the decision she did for us to allow somebody else to take some responsibility with his bare necessities. She thinks I just got too attached and every single time he was outside I JUST HAD TO GO OUT TOO! She’s hopin I’ll get interested in doing something else now.

Mamaw got her eyes checked yesterday post-operative from her laser surgery. She was promised there would be a rose waitin for her in the office but she didn’t bring one home—and I didn’t ask…

She isn’t feelin so good again—says that darned tummy is actin up again. And just when she wanted to begin proofing her novel and writing down the various items she needs to research and then get busy. It didn’t happen today…I didn’t bother Mamaw or Poppy tonight. I just slept where I wanted to and was really quiet—I get by with more when I do that.

February 21, 2011

I had to have that darned MUZZLE on my nose to get my ear drops again today—but guess what? I think maybe they are workin this time! Wouldn’t that just be the bestest ever?

And then when Mamaw was all duded up, she put me in the car and said, “Miss Scarlett, we are goin on a long drive.” She loaded part of her vacuum cleaner in the car and off we went! I suppose she’s got errands again…and I’ll have to stay in the car…but I can do that! We drove to the Grimes Walmart and she ran in to get some batteries for our garage door keypad—she didn’t mess around and spend any more money than that in there either. Poppy is gonna be so proud of her!!!!! Then she starts the car and we go over to SE 14th St. (here in Des Moines, IA) and she drives all the way to the south side so she could see how the east side looked after all these years. She showed me Eyeglass World where Poppy had helped out for a few days a long time ago and then she turned on Army Post Road and drove to the vacuum cleaner place. She said, “Miss Scarlett, I don’t think I’ll be any longer than 5-10 minutes here—so you STAY.” What else could I do?

She was back before I really even got settled down for a nap and then she drove us back home via Fleur Drive. She wanted to see if there was goin to be any water problems there. It was lovely—I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it.

February 20, 2011

By George, I think I’m startin to feel a little bit better today! Must be the new ear drops. When Mamaw wanted to caress my ears today it didn’t hurt so much. We’re hopin this is the answer—cause surgery ISN’T IN OUR PLANS!

Headin out the door this morning to “do my thing,” the big newspaper was there again. I knew right off the bat that she’d have her nose stuck in that most of the day. Suddenly she’s become very involved with stuff that’s goin on in our world. She thinks everybody needs to get involved! ARE YOU INVOLVED?

Poppy is off to work again. Nothin new there. We always just miss him like crazy. But hey, today I did get to see Mr. Ozzie and Becky. I think Oz is mad at us cause he wasn’t very interested in anything but comin in the house for SNAPS. Miss Becky told him no—we’d do that another day. Mamaw always said, “There’s a season for everything.” She thinks this season is over.

Poppy made out a check to send to grandson, Jonn for his mission trip in July. And Mamaw got on Facebook and tried to promote it to folks to help out. We hope everybody searches their heart to help out in one way or another. Otherwise, how are these third world countries gonna learn about God?

February 19, 2011

I’m about as discouraged as a red-headed cocker spaniel with “heavy ears” can be…they still HURT! Today she took a different approach with me. She waited till Dodi got here cause she knows I JUST LOVE THAT GIRL and she had Dodi put the muzzle over my mouth so she could get the new drops in my ears. Then she rubs and caresses my ears for a while to make the medicine go down deep in my canals. She’s hopin those clumps of wax will break up and come out so I won’t have to have any surgery…I hope so too! I didn’t mind the muzzle too bad cause I just looked Miss Dodi right in the eye and she’s so pretty I just hung on to that! Then they put me in the kennel “to rest.” I did throw up just a little on my little pillow so ya know that means MORE LAUNDRY.

Ashton and her friend, Maddie came along too. So the four of them went to the Olive Garden for lunch but the wait was goin to be 35-40 minutes. Ya know kids—they didn’t want to wait so they went to Panera Bread and that’s always a good place too. Mamaw said she had soup and half a sandwich and they put onion on it—she didn’t see it—she ate it and HAS A TERRIBLE TUMMY ACHE! Poor Poppy—neither one of us put together makes one good one today.

Since Mamaw didn’t feel good she didn’t cook—Poppy did his own thing. I wasn’t very hungry myself today. I kept goin in and out of the kennel and then I’d beg Mamaw to go to the waterbed so finally she grabbed her e-reader and told Poppy she was givin in to me. We got back to bed and she read a little bit and then said, “Oh crap—only ten pages left to read and I’m afraid my charge will be up before then.” So she took her book and got her charger out and will just have ta wait to finish the book. Instead—we cuddled—and I’m hopin to feel better tomorrow—how bout you Mamaw—want to feel better tomorrow?

Poppy slipped into bed and disturbed her so she took me to my kennel. Aw shucks—I was hopin against hope…

February 18, 2011

I absolutely refused to let Mamaw put drops in my second ear today! I am sick and tired of that crap I can tell ya!!! And on top of all that, I thought maybe I was gonna get a nice ride and instead found myself back at Ashworth Animal Hospital to see Jessica. It’s a good thing she’s good lookin cause I’m in a snarly mood today. Today I weighed 22.5 lbs. and had to go with her to have her dig in my ears again. She brought me back to Mamaw and I was ready to leave but no way…Miss Jessica says the yeast infection in my ears is raging. I gotta have new drops and come back in a week. God I hate this…

Mamaw took me home and put me in my kennel and went down to PetSmart. She got the other food for me that has more Omega 6 in it and BOUGHT A MUZZLE! She thinks I don’t know it but she’s gonna have to get up earlier in the morning to fool me. I just don’t know when she plans TO USE IT.

February 17, 2011

Another day without Ozzie—well, almost! Since she is given up her duties to him, she’s pullin back a little bit so he won’t miss it so much! She didn’t ask me what I wanted…but we got a really nice walk and I was off-leash. I went in the road once on the trail and in the street once on Ashworth Road. Scared the hell outa Mamaw but I didn’t realize what was happenin. We’ve had snow for so long and could go wherever we wanted so she says I gotta learn all over again. We got back and I was mud from head to toe and I ended up in the bathtub with the shower cleanin my feet and under belly. It was awful—I’ve forgotten how to behave there too. But the point is—WE MADE IT!

I smelled hamburger cookin for lunch and I prayed for just a little bit but got none. Suppose that’s because I got snotty with Mamaw and showed her my teeth and “my ugly lip” when she wanted to put them damned drops in my ears again? Don’t know really—everything seems to be changed pretty fast around here. Sometimes I just go to my kennel and let that “fast world” go by me.

Mamaw and Poppy watched a VHS tape from 1987 they used around the country for the AOA (American Optometric Association all over the country.) Poppy looked so young and had lots and lots of hair! They had a great time with that. She told him he needs to spend more time in the basement huntin that stuff up cause it’s nice to look back on things. He chuckled…

February 16, 2011 (Mamaw's Birthday)

Poppy made sure he had the day off today to spend with Mamaw—she’s havin another one of those birthdays…she just says she’s a day older—that’s all. Poppy did some errands first thing though so Mamaw and me got around and did a load of laundry in his absence.

We’re not goin to take care of Ozzie today—Mamaw told Miss Becky she wanted the WHOLE DAY for us! And so after lunch (but nobody ate—well, guess Poppy had a scrambled egg) she reached in the coat closet for my red, short leash and I KNEW! Poppy’s car with the smell of leather and that big opening on the top of the car popped open so I could catch other smells. It was delightful—did ya hear me? It was delightful! Poppy took care of a fella who went to barber school just a couple years after him so he wanted to surprise the guy and go get a haircut there.

I was pretty nervous about the whole thing—ya know I’ve been kept inside other than my duty trips all winter and I’m not used to the noises yet. So we went in the shop—cute name too—A Cut Above and Poppy climbed in the chair. I couldn’t settle down—I just shook and shook and then OUT OF NOWHERE CAME A LITTLE POOP! I was horrified—and Mamaw and Poppy were absolutely shocked. She jumped up and got me outside to do the rest and picked up after me so I hope I’ve been forgiven. We rode around a while in the Ankeny area to see how much it has grown and just had a lovely ride—all the while I’m feelin pretty damned guilty…and then back home I went in my kennel. My tummy didn’t feel good. Suddenly, I ran out of that kennel and back on the waterbed where I was gonna be sick! Oh my God—Mamaw don’t be MAD AT ME! AND ON YOUR BIRTHDAY TOO! Well, she grabbed a throw and placed it under me so I didn’t make a mess of her quilt—at least she can wash this. I threw up and threw up—wonder if I got car sick? No sense tryin to make excuses—I DID IT—I’M SORRY.

February 15, 2011

The roses are sure pretty! Mamaw walks by and smells and smells and then she can’t understand why I want to spend time outside with my “smeller.” Okay, so it’s muddy out there in spots…I can’t help that! Tell Mother Nature to give us a break will ya?

With all this meltin goin on, I don’t get to walk with Mr. Ozzie. Too many paws to wipe at once. So I go for my walk around the trail and come back to the house where I gotta sit on a rug and be wiped down—and I mean wiped down! From head to foot literally—but it’s my undercarriage she’s wiping. Then she leaves me to go get Ozzie and walks him and then she doesn’t bring him in the house? If I want a glimpse of him I gotta go to the big kitchen windows and pine for him. When he’s done his duty he has to go back to his house and she makes him sit on the rug and wipes his paws too. Now Ozzie is a big boy and so his undercarriage doesn’t get in a awful mess like mine does. Go figure! We repeat this two times a day…Mamaw says it’s beginning to interfere in HER LIFE.

She wrote Miss Becky a note and asked her to find somebody else to help with Ozzie cause she’s rarin’ up to go for her walks. And they are long walks too! I won’t go and Mr. Ozzie is too old to walk four miles a day so…

I woke up at 2:00 a.m. this morning and Mamaw was pickin me up off the waterbed to take me to my own bed. Wish I coulda stayed…

February 14, 2011 (Valentine's Day)

Today is “smooch” day in America. Mamaw and Poppy had to get their’s done before he went to work. I got my belly rubs though—and those damned ear drops!

Mamaw got around and slipped out to get some errands done. She’s got wayyyyy tooooo many of those but I gotta keep my mouth shut—that’s for sure. Well, the drawer pull on the top dresser drawer fell off in Poppy’s hand this morning and she said she’d take care of it. They couldn't find the screw so I suppose that’s one of the errands. But then she came home to me…

AND GUESS WHAT! She put me in the car and opened the vent for air—that’s when I knew I was goin for a nice long drive. And we did too. I feel asleep sittin straight up and wouldn’t begin to lay down until there wasn’t much to look at. And I got the soft, butterfly caresses too. Gotta love it! That was MY valentine present. We drove to Perry because she wanted to pick up a special frame she had seen at the Tea Room for a grand daughter’s birthday AND GUESS WHAT? The Tea Room is closed…oh, oh—didn’t go over too well there.

February 13, 2011

Okay—alright—so I’m late posting today. Well—get used to it. I got an attitude and I don’t feel good. Mamaw keeps poking that antibiotic down my ears and then rubs em like she didn’t do a thing. It’s disgusting…and know what? POPPY HELPS HER! I don’t stand a chance…

So, I’m gonna lay around all day if I can get by with it. Just let her go take care of Ozzie by herself—I’m on strike today!

Check back tomorrow? I might feel better then.

February 12, 2011

KCCI-TV says it’s gonna be a gorgeous day today. We like to walk but Mamaw has all of these errands that built up this week while she labored over her novel. She says we gotta get that stuff done first because now it was a priority—right! Like there’s nothing in the house to eat…who is she kidding? But okay—go and do…

I got tricked this morning with a belly rub from Poppy and she took that opportunity to put those antibiotic drops in my ears. Then she rubbed and rubbed em—I think they’re feelin better but I still don’t like that funny feelin. Glad it’s done for the day though—now we can move on to her “priorities.”

Poppy said his goodbyes as he headed out the door and reminded Mamaw they are goin out to celebrate Valentine’s Day with family after work. That got her up and around and on her way too! And when she came home she had bags and bags of paper products. When she put em away there was still some in the closet so I said, “Mamaw—you didn’t need to get these today.” She almost told me to mind my own business but instead said she wouldn’t want to run out. Then back to the car for a big box of yellow flowers that bloom real early in the spring—maybe they are daffodils? Anyway she made arrangements with HyVee that when they quit blooming she wanted em so she could plant them in “our common area” by our house. She drove a hard bargain and got em cheap she said. Back to the car and for God’s sake—more groceries.

February 11, 2011

My ears are bad! Mamaw called Miss Jessica right away and I gotta go see her at 3:15 today. She keeps tryin to get in to look and I warn her good—they hurt and I don’t want em messed with—so there!

Poppy’s home…..belly rubs galore. He thinks I’m a pretty sweet commodity even though I chewed a hole in the quilt and started eatin the cotton candy filling. Mamaw HIT THE ROOF! I am in so much trouble I’m just not able to look at her and all I hear is BAD DOG—NAUGHTY—guess that means it wasn’t supposed to be a treat.

I got to go get Ozzie today—but I was on a leash. And she was so mad at me, I just kept getting our leashes tangled up. I figure I’ll get her one way or another—somehow. Anyway it was 20 degrees warmer—a big 25—and she thought we could maybe walk the trail. WRONG! When we turned the corner at the trail the wind was bone chilling so she made us come back to the house.

Ozzie hung onto Poppy like crazy today and I didn’t feel well enough to wrestle for my position so I just let him have him. Then Mr. Oz decided to lie down behind the couch and take a nap—I napped—Poppy napped—and Mamaw worked on her “stuff.” The house was very quiet and serene.

February 10, 2011

Yep, Mamaw has been accepted into The SeniorCollege of Greater Des Moines  for that writin and publishin class. They changed the time from 1-3 to 2-4 but she says that’s no big deal. I might as well figure I’ll be alone for 4 weeks! Well, just one day a week so I shouldn’t be complainin too much.

Poppy got duded up and off he went first thing this morning. He came back with a big frame and all kinds of red envelopes and cards. I asked him what that was all about and he said, “February 14th is Valentine’s Day so I bought cards for all of my SWEETHEARTS. And he sat down and signed them and made out the envelopes and everything all by himself. Oh Mamaw did look at each one, seal the envelopes and put a stamp on each one.

And then Poppy gives Mamaw a big smooch and says I’ll see ya tonight. She asks if he will be home for dinner and he said no. He’s goin to the Fonda Nursing Home to see his Mama and then on to Fort Dodge to see his daughter, Reggie and her family. He always takes them out for dinner…I don’t think I miss goin today—last time I was there was Halloween and they had those God-awful decorations that scared the hell out of me…we’ll just wait on ya here Poppy but be sure to get home to us later.

February 9, 2011

Hummm…another cold day—no outside play today. It’s so cold I have to pick up first one paw and then the next to even get my “business” done. I hate this…Mamaw wishes we lived in a warmer winter climate and so do I. Poppy is content where he is—at least for now. That guy just works and works and works while we don’t get long walks or workin in the yard or sittin on the deck—NOTHIN! I hope spring does come early—Mamaw and Me might be crazy if it doesn’t.

But Poppy is off to help people see better so we had to pack his lunch. She dropped a couple Corn Chips and I liked that. But it’s a long, long day without that guy even though he’s so good about my belly rubs.

Mamaw said she wanted to work real hard on her novel cause she doesn’t want to feel “hemmed in” when the weather gets nice enough for us to be out. It was click, click, click most of the day. And sometimes she has to get out these big notebooks—I asked her why. She said, “I can’t remember EVERYTHING in detail so I have to go back and do some research.” That made sense.

February 8, 2011

SPRING FEVER! I’m spending a lot of time looking out the window; wishing I could be out there havin some fun. If I was this bored last year when I was a pup, I don’t remember. But it’s killin Mamaw and Me. A nice long walk right now would be just what the doctor ordered. Instead, it’s “suck it up”—and wait! We washed white clothes today and wanted to get that done BEFORE Ozzie comes to our house. We try to be quiet so he can just rest so when she wants to play golf—I just don’t pay any attention to her.

The BIG BOY wasn’t as willing to come out today though cause Mamaw was awful loud yellin and clappin for me to COME yesterday evening. She feels real bad about that so she made me stay home. Now is that really fair? The love of my life and she’s takin control away from me. She told Poppy she was gonna teach me a good lesson so I’m afraid I’m in for it!

February 7, 2011

I really didn’t want to get out of bed today. It’s cold and it’s boring. But Poppy is home so I did. I got my belly rub right off the bat and then I got outside “to get the stink blown off me.” Okay—let’s start our day now. I did my tricks—well, one of em is confusing cause Mamaw has messed with the wording and I don’t get it—it ends up frustrating us both so we don’t do it anymore. Beside, Poppy says it’s getting harder to feel my ribs so I’M ON A DIET TOO!

I helped strip the bed so we’ll have clean smellin sheets tonight! And she told Poppy to get his dark clothes around and so we ended up with TWO LOADS OF THEM! Gotta love Poppy—don’t ya?

Poppy left for a while—I guess he went to the bank and did some other errands. Ya know they don’t tell me much…but I know Mamaw worked and worked on organizing photos again so she can save em. It’s a big job folks—and she just keeps takin pictures of me. Guess she just can’t get enough of me.

February 6, 2011

I really don’t like weekends anymore. Becky takes care of Ozzie so I rarely see him. And I really miss those quick love fests—they are what keeps me goin, don’t ya know? So I gotta look for some other way to entertain myself…hope Mamaw approves.

Poppy has left for work—Mamaw is hangin out. She told Poppy she had a “BIG JOB” today! She’s goin to go through all of our photos in Photoshop and delete the double copies so we can save em to a DVD. I don’t know about this modern technology but when she is ready to do that, I’ll be right there askin questions. She would work for a long time—go read some of the paper—back to her job—make a phone call to her sister, Mary. She’s not home…probably working at Wal-Mart today. So back and forth she went till she got through them. Now Poppy needs to do his thing so they can get me saved so they don’t loose em. When Poppy got home she told him there must be 500 or more photos OF ME in that program. See, I told ya she was always lookin for a photo opportunity!

We had dinner early tonight cause the Super Bowl is gonna be on. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers—Packers favored by 3. Mamaw tried to make a “wager” with Poppy but he wasn’t goin for that! Well, she picked the WINNING TEAM but was sad cause there was no payoff for her. She is so competitive and there wasn’t any competition there for her. I shoulda told her I’d be good for one whole day and not grab anything I shouldn’t have like Kleenex and hankies and socks and stuff. I wasn’t thinking fast enough.

February 5, 2011

The sun is out and I love it! I lie on the floor where the sun comes in the window and just let it roast my body! Mamaw says I need sunscreen. The sun warms my body and gives me feelings of security and warmth. She’s been tryin to get me to let her put a big purple and black kerchief around my middle but I can tell ya I’m objectin mightily to that!

Mr. Ozzie was outside and I could smell him. I gave Mamaw my very best “Ozzie” whines and she got on those funky snow/ice shoes and took me out. I was watchin him come from the end of the block and I just couldn’t stand it! I jumped the snow bank and got to him RIGHT NOW! We kissed and told each other we’d missed each other for TWO DAYS…it was a sweet reunion. Miss Becky says she’s feelin a little bit better—wonder if she’ll go to work on Monday so I can have Ozzie to myself for a while again?

It’s Saturday so you know where Poppy is headed. And Mamaw is gussied up so I guess that means she’s gonna be “outta here” too. I’m gonna enjoy the sun just as long as I can…

February 4, 2011

Poppy wasn’t supposed to have to work today—but he said YES! That leaves me and Mamaw to do our own thing. Not goin to get much done though…Miss Becky called and said she’s sick so we won’t be seein My Ozzie today.

In that case she said she would go to the store and pick up some “necessities” and drop them at her door. She went to Target and got some Mucinex D (that’s high powered stuff cause Mamaw told Poppy she had to SIGN for the stuff and show her driver’s license too.) Then she got two cans of Chicken Noodle Soup, a loaf of wheat bread and some sugar free Strawberry jelly to help Miss Becky feel better.

I sure do miss the ole boy today. I’ve asked to go outside lots of time cause I’m hopin to run into him—hasn’t happened. So I’ve been kinda naughty just to get some attention around here. I got my mouth on a sock and wasn’t about to give it up. But Mamaw—she’s smart—she kept telling me BAD DOG and Leave It and stuff like that and I just couldn’t look her in the eye I felt so degraded! I finally gave it up without getting a treat—now that’s a first ever!!!!

February 3, 2011

Mamaw got up this mornin and told Poppy “This is the first day of the rest of my life.” He seemed to understand what she was sayin—I didn’t. Other than every time I go for her Kleenex (that she leaves layin around for me to smell) and the toilet paper, she tells me she’s seriously workin on weight loss and I need to work on my New Years’ Resolutions. I get so tired of hearing that…

Both of em got “gussied up,” shoved my hinny in the kennel and off they went! I have no idea what they are up to but when they came home, they didn’t have any sacks with em. Mamaw said she had an appointment with the dermatologist, Dr. Love (how ironic is that?) Beyond that I’ve been told NOTHING…

They both did their own thing today but I can tell ya I got lots of belly rubs. Somethin about them is erotic and I love the dance…. Mamaw has read a lot today; she’s into her e-reader and reading “The Confession” by John Grisham. She told Poppy she’s so involved she almost can’t put it down.

February 2, 2011 (Groundhog's Day)

We woke up this morning to this great big groundhog being held up by a fella in a tuxedo! I said, “Mamaw—are we dreamin or what?” She said, “Miss Scarlett—today is groundhog's day and they bring Punxsutawney Phil out of hibernation to see if he can see his shadow. If he doesn’t—we will have an early spring.” What a bunch of nonsense—spring will get here when the time is right for heaven’s sake! This Phil character is a camera hog and just wants to be on TV to get noticed—ya can’t kid me…It’s cold—and the big con artist did not see his shadow. Count the day’s folks, and let’s see if his prediction is correct!

Poppy had to trudge off in the snow and cold to go to work. We got his lunch fixed for him and said for him to be careful…
The shovelin people were here right after Mamaw shoveled our deck so she left the rest for them to do. She says that’s what they get paid to do. And it’s a good thing they are here too! Miss Becky’s walk is drifted up to Mamaw’s waist and when she looked out she wondered how she was gonna get to Ozzie today. Thank God—it’s gonna be shoveled.

February 1, 2011

Oh, oh—we’re in for it today! Wes at KCCI-TV weather studio says the snow and wind are comin at us today. Mamaw told Poppy it was gonna be a challenge to take care of Ozzie today. He still wants to go down to the trail to do “his thing” and the wind just whips her around. I choose to give her a break and try to get enough smells in around our yard that I can get er done.

Poppy is definitely home today—in bed most of the day. Just layin back there watchin TV so we gotta figure out our own thing. Mamaw doesn’t bother him much cause she thinks he must need the rest but we get bored. She said she was gonna have to teach me how to human talk so she would have a companion today!

She’s gonna wear her clothes out comin and goin and shovelin. She has a definite routine—coat, scarf (tossed around her head 2 times), hat (over her ears), then check the coat for a “poop sack.” Put the gloves on and push her feet in those funky shoes with the metal things that keep her from fallin and out we go. Good thing I can hold it long enough for all of that stuff huh? I know better than to wait till the last minute!

January 31, 2011

We knew this day was comin—in more ways than one! It’s the end of the month AND we’re in a terrible winter advisory! Wes, the KCCI-TV weatherman, is sayin we’re gonna have 13 ½ inches of snow! That got Mamaw’s attention right off the bat…she started makin a list and checkin it twice and she asked Poppy if he was gonna need anything for the next few days cause she’s goin out and getting it done.

I just knew I’d better be good about the kennel cause my food and treat supply is getting low. Mr. Ozzie has been eatin my SNAPS too so they don’t go as far. I agreed to be a good girl…and off I went…home again!

Poppy had to work and when Mamaw went to fix him lunch there wasn’t any sandwich stuff so she put the rest of his lunch together and said she’d get a sandwich at HyVee and bring his lunch to him. Ain’t she thoughtful? He thinks so too…Poppy’s out the door—Mamaw starts her car and before long she’s out the door too!

January 30, 2011

Oh. Oh, Mamaw and Poppy are both cough in like crazy again! She said maybe it wasn’t a good idea they went out. They stayed in bed and just listened to television while I had to wait for someone to fetch me. I think they were cuddlin each other or somethin.

But Poppy is that workin guy—AGAIN! And Mamaw said she’d just as soon stay home and do nutin Honey…which is just what she did. That big paper takes her half a day to read and I gotta have some attention too! I was kinda lonely cause I didn’t see Ozzie all day and I get in trouble when I try to read the paper with Mamaw.

She got caught on the phone for a big portion of the day too. And Poppy had those darned handkerchiefs that needed bleached again so she put bleach and soap in the sink the soaked em—she says that way she bleaches the sink too. It kinda smells bad when she does that so she lights a candle.

January 29, 2011

Mamaw can’t hardly believe that the month is almost over! Well, she’s taken on extra work so her days go faster now. Ya might think takin the neighbor’s dog out is a 5 minute job—but not the way Mamaw does it. She tells us she would want somebody to care as much about ME if they were caring for me.
It is Saturday—Poppy says his work schedule is horrendous! Mamaw is excited to go see her sister at the tea room and Shops On Grand in Ames, IA. I thinkin it could be a long day…

By 10:00 they were both out the door—ya know where I am. It’s okay (that’s what I keep tellin myself anyway.) I’ve managed to get my business taken care of and that’s a good thing for me! I hear the car back out of the driveway and the garage door close. Okay girl—settle in for the day. She leaves the television on like I can WATCH it from my kennel—silly girl. And I can’t see out to make sure I’m protectin stuff here but she always locks the doors!

They must have had a wonderful time—she said she took pictures of the lovely tea room. She had a private conversation with the gal how started the shop 26 years ago—Mamaw says she’s real nice. Anyway, the CITY OFFICIALS to this lady they care closing off both entrances to her tea room and Shops on Grand for three months (July, August, September) to do road repair and updates. The lady is devastated!

January 28, 2011

I sure hope Mamaw isn’t goin to be on the phone all day—her sister, Mary called and they yakked and yakked—seemingly having a wonderful visit. I can’t figure out why they’re talking that long on the phone for God’s sake—they are getting together tomorrow for lunch! Sometimes humans are just too hard to try to figure out!

Poppy got asked to work for a while today. I sure didn’t want him to but he says, “When duty calls—I answer.” He’s really a wonderful guy but he’s gotta get well. Mamaw thinks he is too pale and thinks he’s lost weight too! Now she on the other hand, she has gained 5 lbs. and she can’t stand to look at herself in the mirror. When she is sick she keeps eatin—just tryin to feel better. She’s gotta git a grip on that!

Since we didn’t have Ozzie duty at noon, Mamaw spent her day workin on that novel. Oh, she didn’t have Ozzie duty cause she was supposed to meet a friend at Brass Armadillo but she had to cancel. Mamaw just decided to use the time to her advantage. So, click, click, click—tap, tap, tap—I NAPPED!

January 27, 2011

Paradise has kinda turned into purgatory around here. The virus has “sucked the fun” out of Mamaw and Poppy. They keep sayin they are gonna do this or do that but it doesn’t end up happenin. She called the doctor and left a message for him to call back. Even SHE’s beginning to worry about things! Now, wouldn’t ya say IT’S ABOUT TIME????

Mamaw got all feisty this morning and said, “Scarlett, help me strip the bed—we’re washin EVERYTHING.” And that we did…took almost all day to wash all of the sheets, blankets, mattress liner and pillowcases but FINALLY…she shut me out of the bedroom at each phase of the project. She thinks “the bugs” (NO NOT BEDBUGS—THE FLU BUGS) will leave us alone.

They worked together to put a really nice breakfast (at lunch time) together and I think it was real good. In fact, they ate so good they didn’t drop a thing on the floor for me. They are both good about cleanin up too. Sometimes they do it together and sometimes the one who feels the best does it.

January 26, 2011

Today is just another day in Paradisein the winter—it’s just getting to be old stuff. Poppy is off to work, and Mamaw is getting “duded up” for lunch out at Olive Garden with Judy Swanson. Looks like I might just get the short end of the stick today…

The grocery list has gotten LONG, Poppy has a lab jacket for work that needs to go to the dry cleaners, and Mamaw has a box of Christmas stuff that needs to get mailed to James and Jonn in Michigan. So—YEP, YOU GUESSED IT! The kennel…

I think she’s mad at me anyway cause she put a chew bone in her old sock she gave me and when Poppy noticed I’d gotten a piece chewed off he was afraid I’d choke on it. Mamaw came at me like I was gonna be willing to give it up to her. You gotta be kidding right? I got pretty nasty with her warnin her to leave it alone. Ya know what she did? She went to the kitchen and grabbed her little short broom and came at me with that! I can tell ya right now, I wasn’t about to argue with her then so I gave it up. She’s smart; that on is…

January 25, 2011

Oh boy, here we go again—they’re still SICK! Now I can tell ya this much—Mamaw is worried about Poppy—Poppy is worried about Mamaw—and I’M WORRIED ABOUT BOTH OF EM! She’s been naggin at him to call the doctor and he keeps saying, “Not yet.” What is he waitin for? Well, what is SHE WAITIN FOR?

They both have to get “gussied up” today though—Mamaw is goin to Wolfe Clinic today to see Dr. Davison about something Poppy calls capsule clouding. In case ya didn’t know, that’s optometry talk…anyway; I’m beginning to resent that damned kennel. Not that I have to go there THAT often but I’ve got cabin fever too and I WANT OUT!

Off they go and they were gone a really long time. I was getting disgusted cause I thought maybe he took her for a ride and I didn’t get to go…but when they got back Poppy said that Mamaw had laser surgery. When I looked at her, I said, “Mamaw what big eyes you have.” And Poppy said they had to dilate her eyes to get a good look at em. Well, she truly can’t see anything now so she told him she would just lie down for a while and try to watch TV.

January 24, 2011

Come on spring! We got cabin fever in our house—and that damned flu too! It’s getting to be about more than any of us can stand. We want to get up in the morning—ready to go, go, go. I’m not satisfied with the idea they don’t think they need to talk to the doctor about their “hackin” around all day and all night.

Miss Becky had Ozzie out later than usual today so Mamaw opened the door to say good morning and I RAN RIGHT OUT TO KISS HIM! Well, she said she isn’t going in to work until 4:30 p.m. so she would be with Oz for his first afternoon “poop break.” Mamaw and I will do the next one. Ozzie and I really did have a wonderful time this morning and frankly—let em be sick; I got my memories to hang on to.

Poppy was supposed to go to a visitation in Fonda today but he sure felt like somebody had run over him. I hope it wasn’t Mamaw…she did encourage him not to go though cause she didn’t feel like goin and helping him drive. He kept thinking he could make it but in the end he stayed home and spent some time on “our waterbed.” He takes the “clicker” and back and forth—back and forth till Mamaw and I have no idea what’s goin on with the TV so we lose interest. Let him sleep…

January 23, 2011

We can’t figure out if it’s a cold, flu or a virus BUT IT’S STILL HANGIN AROUND—WITH BOTH OF THEM. Some days aren’t fun and I fear this is one of them. Poppy got duded up for work and Mamaw said she had laundry to do so at least they won’t be “veggin” out all day!

I helped her get the white clothes to the washing machine—hankies and all. While the laundry went crazy, we read the paper. I tried to get a piece to read but she sternly said, “NO.” Suppose I gotta behave—she’s been complainin to Poppy bout me lately. She says I’m getting a little naughty…

We had a HUGE paper today and all of a sudden Mamaw is interested in cutting stuff out of the paper to keep. Go figure! I wanted to look at the paper too but she got kinda mad at me bout that so I left it alone.

January 22, 2011

It is Saturday. I don’t have much of a chance to be with Ozzie cause Becky is home and she takes him in and out her back door and sometimes I don’t see him in time to get out. And it’s cold so nobody wants to stay out long enough for me and the big boy to have our time. But this morning I had just been out and no more than got back in the door—and I smelled HIM! Course I begged and begged so we went back out. Mamaw didn’t have her boots on so she wouldn’t let me drag her through all the snow to get to him so SHE MADE ME WAIT…that’s hard to do! But finally he got back far enough she told me I could go see him and I was so excited. I wanted to play too but he wasn’t in the mood so I ran down to him—then I ran back wantin him to follow me—and when he wouldn’t, I just ran right back to him again. I love that guy!!!

We packed a lunch for Poppy—he goes to work at Merle Hay today. He said he think he’s feeling a little better and Mamaw smiled. She “accidentally” dropped a couple of corn chips on the floor and I got em snatched right up. Well, what was really funny was Poppy was getting ready for work when we did the lunch thing and when he came out dressed for work, Mamaw was on the computer so he went to the kitchen and began to make his own lunch. Mamaw heard rustling noises (I swear she’s got ears in the back of her head) and came running out to tell him that lunch has already been prepared. Too late—I “accidentally” got a couple more corn chips. Well listen—ya didn’t think I was goin to tell him not to pack his lunch do ya?

January 21, 2011

Yep, Mamaw got up and my kennel door was open; Poppy was in his recliner—I was stuck like glue…oh, oh! Is she gonna be mad at us for letting me do this? We’ll play like we FORGOT and just hope it flies over. Twas truly a GOOD NIGHT…

I didn’t wake up singin Oh What A beautiful Morning though when I got outside to do my thing. It is bitter cold; you just can’t afford to stand out there and smell the yellow snow for long cause the pads of my feet get so cold I begin to hold up first one, and then another and Mamaw says Miss Jessica (my personal vet) says that is dangerous. Pet owners—do ya love your pets? Okay—then limit their time outside in this weather and when they begin to lift that paw get them into the house right away. Miss Jessica says that staying out too long can freeze snow and snow melt up in those pads and IT’S A REALLY BAD THING!

Poppy was home all day again. I guess he’s just not getting rid of that cold or flu or whatever is ailin him. Mamaw has it too but she has to keep goin even when she doesn’t feel like it. Cause there is me and now Ozzie most days two times so we go…we do…she rests if she has time.

January 20, 2011

Poppy is home today—I hope to beg for a ride in the car. It didn’t take very long this morning though, to figure out that my nose smelled a RAT. Mamaw came out of the bedroom wearing “gaddin about” clothes so I knew she wasn’t goin to be cleanin house in those! And Poppy came out smellin just delicious with his fragrance and I’m thinking—maybe we are travelin today!!! WRONG…She started HIS car and away she went.

When she got back she said, “Miss Scarlett, just be thankful you didn’t have to get your boobs flattened. I didn’t get that so she had to share with me that it was time for her yearly mammogram. That’s where they check to make sure there isn’t something growin in there that could make you sick. I asked her if she was okay for another year and she told me they said if they needed her to come back they would call. Otherwise, she would get a report back in about a week. Well, I’m glad for her that THAT is done. And I’m gonna be real careful not to bump her today too!

Then Poppy started HER car and he was on his way. “Hey Mamaw, what’s goin on today anyhow,” I asked her. He’s takin my car to see a fella about how much he would charge to fix my parking lot hit and run. They weren’t at all happy with the cost of the estimate from Ford.

I was just so excited when I saw Mamaw get my short leash out of the closet cause then I KNEW I was goin in the car…only thing is, I only made it to PetSmart. I ran right back to LeeAnn and Mamaw was tryin to get me some exercise but I couldn’t find any interest in searchin for the leftovers underneath the shelving. I was ready to see Miss LeeAnn. She was happy to see me too! So I got a haircut and all the groomers made over me as usual and hey, it was kinda nice. It takes a long time to get me done don’t ya know? My ears take forever to dry…so that gives mt Mamaw a chance to run some errands and “have a little FREE TIME she calls it.”

January 19, 2011

I had to help Mamaw with Poppy’s hankies today. She’s so funny—has to bleach them every so often she thinks—but does she? Well, ya don’t argue with Mamaw when she’s in charge of your bread and butter! I love it when she drops one or two of the hankies and I latch on to them and together we head for the washer. I figure I’ve done my good deed and saved her some time in the process.

Becky next door was home all morning to take care of Ozzie so we were free to “do our own thing.” I miss the ole boy when that happens though…maybe it was good though cause Mamaw sat right down at her laptop and the constant tap, tap, tap of the keys soothed my soul. She’s back to writin her novel again. She spent the majority of the day doin that.

And me? Well, I asked to go outside way too many times because I head straight for Mr. Ozzie’s house to see if he can come out to play. When we round the corner of the house, it is always windy and cold but I just gotta know if he’s out. (smile)

January 18, 2011

We got lots to do today! Mamaw says she’s been sick long enough! Time to get back among the living…she’s shaved her legs and armpits and hit the shower. Then it’s put on the deodorant and all that lotion stuff. I try to get a taste of it but she doesn’t like that! As she chooses clothes from her closet, I sneak in and get a sock—bad dog—at least that’s what SHE said.

Poppy is out the door to work—Mamaw is close behind him. And she’s got all kinds of STUFF in her arms so that tells me she will be gone a long time. My only saving grace is she has to take care of OUR OZZIE again today so I do know she’ll be back SOMETIME.

She went to HyVee and got Poppy a couple of their super-duper sub sandwiches and took his lunch to him. And she had to go to Younkers—she bought Poppy a couple of new ties and I guess HE HATES THEM! That’s what she said anyway, so she took em back. That new place in town, Trader Joe’s, she goes there and buys their high fiber, low calorie wheat Raisin Bran—that is her lunch almost every day! Well, needless to say, it was wonderful havin her home again.

January 17, 2011 (Martin Luther King Day)

It just might surprise my readers to know that I have a dream... We’ve been collaborating on this blog for 1 ½ years now, and we think it is time to get this thing published. We are asking our readers from all over the world if they personally know somebody in the industry that might be willing to take a look at “our work.” We’d sure appreciate it…Mamaw isn’t getting any younger ya know.

Mamaw called PetSmart this morning to see if I could get a bath and haircut. Yep, she told Poppy she just doesn’t feel up to “all that mess.” That’s okay cause I just love Miss LeeAnn and she loves me too! We have a good ole time—I’m not crazy about the dryer though. We just work together to get it done—the problem then is? Miss LeeAnn can’t get to me till Thursday, at 1:00 p.m.—she’s been gone for 2 weeks. Oh Lord Mamaw—ya don’t think she’s been sick do ya? So Mamaw says she’s just stayin in another day. It is Martin Luther King day and most of the banks will be closed—no mail today so what’s the rush to get out there anyway?

A Day In the Life Of Scarlett O'Hara: January 15, 2011

A Day In the Life Of Scarlett O'Hara: January 15, 2011

January 16, 2011

No church today—Mamaw is still sick! Well, Poppy too but he goes to work anyhow. I’m just on pins and needles all day till he gets back home with us. He told Mamaw he was going to Mass at 4:30 and she could join him there but she said she was gonna pass…he’ll take our food pantry sack with him—Mamaw will rest. She’s got a great big newspaper to read and sometimes she likes to just hibernate all by herself…ya know—TO THINK ABOUT THINGS. She’s got so many irons in the fire she doesn’t know what to do. I’m thinking though that she’s gonna figure it out one project at a time…WAY TO GO MAMAW!

She is supposed to drive to Ankeny to meet up with her JIGS group and she isn’t even goin to do that! And she loves that…getting together with her old classmates (and I do mean OLD).

Lindsey is goin to see our own Dr. Blume today, THAT'S MY POPPY, and he called to ask John to come in too! Yesterday it was so hectic Poppy thought he had to rush John a little and he wants to see if he can wear contact lenses so he’s goin back today…they’re gonna work on that!

January 15, 2011

Good Lord—how long we gonna be sick around here anyhow? Poppy trudged off to work and we felt really sorry for him cause Mamaw and I took a nap. She didn’t feel up to all that work of givin me a bath and then cleanin up the mess so we just didn’t do it today.

She did got to the store though and buy the canned meat for the church food pantry and then she got some Tuna Helper’s too. She says that can feed quite a large family.

When she got home she was exhausted cause she also went to the Brass Armadillo. She was lookin for that old camera for Reggie but somebody bought it! She felt really bad she hadn’t just taken it at the time but that’s the way the cookie crumbles…and it crumbled I can tell ya.

We didn’t cook again tonight. Poppy ended up fixin leftover cornbread and hot Maple syrup over the top—Mamaw heated something or other up for herself. She went to bed early and invited me along…love it, love it, love it! I stayed a long time too.

In the night she was really sick and I think she bothered Poppy but he felt sorry for her. She was awake yet at 3:00 a.m.

January 14, 2011

Oh, oh—we’re all sick! Bummer…we found the inauguration televised so we watched that. It was pretty pathetic though—pretty much silent at our house. I think this must be what you folks call “a living hell.” I’ve been out twice today and Mamaw has to take Ozzie out too but I’m guessin we’ll take him out and then take him back home cause I think Mamaw should lie down for a while. We’ll see… We didn’t have Ozzie come back to our house today…she just can’t handle it! But we did go back next door and take him out another time cause Becky called and she was workin late. We were both really good for her cause I whispered in his ear that Mamaw wasn’t gonna take any nonsense from us.

We didn’t cook all day—Mamaw just said we were all on our own. Good thing it’s just a measuring cup and a walk across the kitchen cause I got fed. Poppy didn’t do anything…he was really sick. And Mamaw and I went back to the waterbed two times for naps. Nobody got any attention today—

In this case it was late to rise, early to bed, go figure that one out! This just can’t go on forever—can it? We watched more television today than we ever have…and ya know how Poppy likes to flip those channels? She couldn’t take THAT today so she did her own thing. I tried to divide my time between both of them so they wouldn’t fight over me.

Good night Irene and everybody else on this planet. Can ya put in a good word so tomorrow can be a better day? I’d sure appreciate it folks.

January 13, 2011

Poppy is almost WORSE today…Mamaw asked if he could get somebody else to work for him today—he said there was nobody else…so; he has to go. We fixed him up a super-duper lunch and sent some medicine along with him. But he forgot to take “his bobbles”—that’s what he calls em. He saves stuff from the computer on them so he called and asked Mamaw if she would run em over to him when she went to HyVee—she never says no!

She did say “no” to the Branstad Mass and Reception tonight. Said it just wasn’t good for him to over-do and take that to infect everybody else.

We took Ozzie out today and then brought him back to our house. Mamaw is getting smart—she kind of ignores him after he has had his “snaps” and he has begun to FINALLY lay down. Today he laid on the big rug in front of the kitchen sinks and took a nap. We were pleased…We took him home finally and left him there. But later in the afternoon, Becky called and said she had to work late so we went back and took “the ole boy” out again.

Poppy came in the door looked like “an 18-wheeler had run him over” and was very, very tired. We’re all very, very tired so we ate our dinner and all just lay around for the rest of the evening. I did make it to the waterbed and stayed there till Mamaw picked me up and took me to my bed. Poppy, Mamaw—hope we all feel better tomorrow—don’t you?

January 12, 2011

Things aren’t so good this morning…Poppy woke up with a terrible sore throat AND HAS TO WORK TODAY AND TOMORROW…Mamaw isn’t sure he’s gonna be able to make it. We’ll see.

The weatherman said we got 7 ½ inches of snow in West Des Moines. You can sure tell it too! I just don’t like it as much this year as I did last year but I do so like to stick my nose in it every time I go out. What I don’t like is all the traffic around our house and the noise they make.

She finally just had to get out to run some errands today. Jessie is goin to take care of Ozzie cause when Mamaw fell yesterday, she hurt herself. Oh not bad—but she is definitely sore, sore, sore. She can hardly move around and had to lie down for an hour she hurt so bad. She said even Tylenol wasn’t helping her…

January 11, 2011

It is snowing and blowing and it’s kinda a mess outside. And Mamaw committed herself to taking Ozzie out two times today—wonder if she’s sorry she did that? She got her big high top boots on and went out to shovel for me. Then I went out and “squatted” in my special area she prepared for me. She’s afraid I’ll freeze my watcha-ma-call it so she prepares an area. I squat so low—well after all; I don’t want it blowin all over for heaven’s sake!

We did some laundry—what’s new huh? And when we went to the basement to do the laundry, the heater had been left on since Sunday—oh, oh, watch that American Energy bill! And we are still finding stuff from our last Christmas to put away so that’s what we did mostly today.

She's still really mad at the gal from Office Max that screwed up her project and she worked on that today too. She tried to use the scanner and it isn’t workin right so she is a little more frustrated than usual. I’m stayin out of it that’s for sure.

January 10, 2011

Mamaw was so tired today she stayed in bed till ALMOST NOON! Poppy took me out this morning and of course it snowed so he did the scoopin this morning and cleared “my personal spot” for me. They are soooo good to me.

Poppy did his thing all morning and finally took the gate down so I could go “harass Mamaw.” She didn’t mind—just said, “Scarlett, let’s just hug a little while Mamaw wakes up then I’ll get up.” I was glad to hear that—I think Poppy was too. Gets pretty quiet around our house when she’s sleepin—or mad…that happens sometimes too. Thank God it doesn’t last forever!

She got up and finished cleanin up and putting stuff away—she’s satisfied now. And then she and Poppy had a nice visit about the weekend. And she did a photo project for him too…then she asked him if it was “our turn.” My blog was late getting posted today, but who cares?

January 9, 2011

We hopped out of bed to begin our BIG DAY. When I got done outside I went straight to the basement door cause I just knew Mike and Stacey stayed over! I just couldn’t wait to see them. They’re gonna get around and go to Mass before the rest of the company comes. Mamaw is workin in the kitchen getting stuff done ahead of time so she can enjoy the company too.

Stacey took a shower and when she came out of the bathroom, she had a “purple thing” on her head—scared the hell outta me! I was sure happy when she got all “duded up” as Mamaw does and came out lookin like a people; not an alien. Mamaw and Poppy got “duded up” too—it was quite a sight I tell ya—quite a sight. Course I had to go in the kennel while they went to church but with company around I didn’t want to make a scene so I went to the slammer peacefully.

They just got home from church and Reggie, Kurt, Catherine and Jonathan arrived. They were all talking at the same time havin a great get-together and Mamaw and Poppy are smiling like crazy. I kinda had to get re-acquainted so I took my time smellin em—yep; they belong to us!

January 8, 2011

Right out of the “chute” today, we were BUSY! We’re up early and, you guessed it! Mamaw is cleanin again…hope she finishes up before she works her fingers to the bone…and as she’s workin she’s thinking about that “little oops” the lady made at Office Max and tells Poppy she’s thinkin about not even goin over there today. He thought that was a perfect solution—after all—it wasn’t Mamaw’s problem that it happened and they got the company comin and she insists on bein ready. So she picked up the whole shebang and put it away till next week when she REALLY has the time to make sure its all in the right order before she goes back. You can bet she’ll be givin em a piece of her mind too…well deserved.

Poppy made contact with John Swanson so he’s comin with the pickup to go get the file cabinet. Now we are waitin for Mike and Stacey to get here so he can help. So I had all kinds of young men at my feet and it isn’t even noon. When they got back, and as they are carryin that HUGE thing through the big sliding doors in the basement, I played it safe and watched from the top of the stairs. Boy, those guys are STRONG.

They had a bite to eat (just junk food) and the men got ready to leave the house to get to Valley West. Poppy is checkin Mike’s eyes today to see if he was gonna need new glasses. So when they left Mamaw started putting some of the food together in preparation for tomorrow. And she had her own boo boo but she swore me to secrecy. Come and visit me and I’ll whisper it in your ear though…As she’s workin the phone rings—it’s my Poppy. He says he wants to run the new equipment on Mike’s eyes and it’s at Merle Hay so they were goin there. That is wonderful! Mamaw can get her mess cleaned up and all will be well.

January 7, 2011

Poppy has been on the internet lookin for a filing cabinet. Mamaw says we got too much stuff sittin on the floor in the office and we need to get it put “where they will know where to find it.” I know—the same ole same old. But she’s got a point and don’t forget her organizational skills…everything in its place—even if ya can’t find it. WEIRD!  Well, he found one and guess he’s gonna get some “muscle” from the guys in our family to help him get it home tomorrow. I suppose that means Mike and John…we’ll see what happens with that tomorrow.

But back to today! Many errands left yet—if I were them I would BE EXHAUSTED BY NOW! All the house cleanin and errands to run. Anyway, Mamaw took her Chapter 15 to Office Max to be “smashed together” in a book. She left it and wants to pick it up in the morning…

They came home with MORE GROCERIES!!! I’m getting a little concerned now that they’re gonna blow up like big balloons but when I asked about it they reminded me we were havin some big eaters this weekend. O yeah, I forgot (smile) so I watched em work together to get everything put away or “stashed in the corner of the kitchen” for company.

January 6, 2011

The sun hid behind a cloud today…it just wasn’t as much fun outside. So I kinda just come and go as potty breaks are “needed” and leave the rest behind. Poppy is home today and he is busy, busy, busy. He gets a little grumpy if Mamaw interrupts his work so we gotta be quiet today. I got to help with laundry though…but she keeps that “Eagle eye on me” in case I run with something. I gotta figure out a new way to do that cause she’s caught on to my ways.

Mamaw is determined to get “published” one way or another so she has worked all day on Chapter 15, putting photo collages together to go with our outings. She’s still tryin desperately to teach me about art and give me some school housin and book learnin but ya know what folks? I like me just the way Mamaw has trained me and just cause I don’t talk like I have a PhD in anything doesn’t matter to me cause I’ve got feelings and ideas just like the rest of ya got. And Mamaw and Poppy love me just the way I am so sorry about the spelling and use of sentences here—I just say what I’ve got to say and she allows me to be who I am.

We took Ozzie out again today and had a wonderful time. I’ve even thought about marryin the guy. Course he’s lots older than I am and has some health problems. And after all, he does live JUST NEXT DOOR…Mamaw says to forget it! She says I’m stayin right where I am…

January 5, 2011

It’s really pretty hard for me to know how Mamaw can have so many errands to run…it seems like she does them EVERY DAY! When we got up this morning, Poppy was goin to have to work again…I’m sure missin the car rides we used to take together! Mamaw said she didn’t have plans to go out of the house today and I thought that was pretty swell.

Then the phone rang—it was Poppy. “Are you runnin any errands today Babe,” he asked her. Well, she would never say NO to him and he needed something so he asked her if she would run that over to Valley West. Of course you know the answer to that! She was in the process of washing the bedding and Mr. John had just delivered the exercise bike for her to use in bad weather.

She got duded up—but not too much and said she would just run a couple more errands of her own while she was out. Yeah!!! She wasn’t gone long though and she was happy. She let me out of the kennel and put my leash on and said, “Scarlett, let’s go get Ozzie and we’ll all go outside to go potty.” I was in HEAVEN…did ya hear me? I WAS IN HEAVEN…

January 4, 2011

The weather seems not to be too bad right now. When we go outside to potty we are staying out a while longer. Mamaw told me she wouldn’t mind if the rest of the winter was this mild—me too. My nose JUST LOVES IT TOO! Ozzie and I have been able to see each other 3 times today—my life is just about perfect!

She tells me she has errands to run – wonder what she’s got up her sleeve today; so I simply asked her. She said, “I’ve got to go to the bank, go to Office Max and pick up a printer cartridge, and go to Michael’s to finish picking up a little something for Catherine’s Christmas. When she started the car, I decided I’d best not be a “pain in the drain” today cause she got really mad at me yesterday about that darned walkin business. I guess you could say I was a willing participant…

January 3, 2011

It’s a beautiful morning…I’ve been out 3 times to do my duty. I don’t like to “hang around” too long outside (well, unless Ozzie is out) so I usually go pee the first time; poop the second time; and OZZIE THE THIRD TIME…was it Clint Eastwood that said, “Go ahead—make my day”—that’s what Ozzie does for me.

Mamaw is doing a lot of research right now on the copyright laws and proofing materials and all kinds of neat, new things that keep her mind from goin dead. Me? I’m still hangin around on the couch watchin what’s goin on outside and protectin my family. I reckon the whole year is gonna be spent that way, don’t you?

We did go on two terrific walks today and did I make Mamaw mad? I ask again—did I make Mamaw mad? We got down to the trail where she always releases me from my leash now and we had a quiet and vigorous walk. My nose was to the ground most of the time…she kept her eyes focused ahead of us. I would get “delayed” with the smells from time to time and would have to run like crazy to catch up with her. She had informed me she wasn’t goin to wait around on me anymore so I gotta face up to that responsibility. We got to Ashworth Road and she tried to hook me to my leash and I REBELLEDdid ya hear me I REBELLED! She chased, she offered a SNAP treat, she did the BAAAAA thing, she did it all and I could tell she was fearful too. That’s cause I get too close to the street and she’s afraid I might forget where I am and run out in the street. She finally turned on her heel (and I mean TURNED ON HER HEAL) and headed back the way we had come. I knew then I was in trouble with her but I ignored all of that and thought maybe she would forget it by the time we got home.

January 2, 2011

“But Mamaw—I don’t WANT POPPY TO GO TO WORK,” I shouted this morning. I like havin him home (the belly rubs are excellent and I get a little dancing in at the same time). And Mamaw is getting gussied up too! Okay—what’s the deal here?

Well, gussied up and all, she took me outside and I actually got to get my “Ozzie Fix” twice today. I think he’s feelin better—Miss Becky says he acts “like a teenager.” Love that guy…

When Mamaw wanted me to go to my kennel so she could leave me—I resisted. I got that old, loud BAAAAAAA noise from her and I stopped COLD IN MY TRACKS!!! She has a way of putting me in my place I can tell ya. I still made her “herd me in” like livestock cause I wanted her to know I didn’t appreciate it at all! Didn’t matter—she was out the door without a word to me. I think she’s a wee bit upset with me.

January 1, 2011 (New Year's Day)

To start off with this morning, Mamaw says it’s hard to remember to write 2011 instead of 2010. I’ll keep remindin her though…

When I woke up this morning I thought I was dreamin—but maybe not! Poppy was telling her that when she put the gate up last night I would go far enough to make sure it was still there twice (that means I can’t join her on the waterbed.) I hung out with Poppy and finally at 10:00 p.m. I just put myself to bed. He didn’t shut my kennel door, but that was okay—I was tired and went into a deep sleep. I don’t know what woke me up at 2:00-2:30 a.m., but I left my kennel and jumped up on the couch with “My Poppy” layin as close as I could get to him and I put my head on his leg to hold him down…

He said he got up at 7:15-7:30 a.m. but I wasn’t ready to get up. I went to the other end of the couch and put my head on the arm rest and didn’t stir a muscle until around 8ish—that’s when Mamaw got up. Mamaw was amazed that Poppy didn’t close my door but she didn’t chew him out or anything…thank God, right Poppy? We got outside and it was COLD AND WINDY! Was it just 2 days ago it was 60 degrees and we went for a great walk? Know what it is now?—7 degrees. It didn’t take me very long to decide I wanted back in the house. Oh—not that I WANTED IN THE HOUSE—my nose didn’t get its workout but it was too darned COLD!

New Year's Resolutions (The perfect Gospel according to MAMAW)

Mamaw said she wasn’t letting me off this easy…she told me to think about New Year’s Resolutions and I didn’t dictate any to her this morning. She got to thinking and said, “Scarlett, we have to tell what you want to change this year so you have a measurable goal…Bah Humbug…Who wants to measure what? And why didn’t she SHARE her resolutions with me? Is this really ALL ABOUT ME? Suppose we’d better get this over with…

1. I’m gonna try to learn to leave newspapers, napkins and socks alone
2. I want to become more confident of the noises outside that scare the hell out me…
3. Hopefully, I will enjoy walking with Mamaw more (at least when I am off leash)…
4. Try not to bark at every dog I see going by or down the street…
5. Bark less when somebody comes to the door…
6. and try harder NOT TO JUMP UP ON THEM!

I think that’s a lot of “fixin” to do—will let ya know how I come along with it as time goes by…

December 31, 2010 (New Year's Eve)

The day started out being pretty boring but it got rolling later in the day. FedEx showed up with a mini-series called “Taken” and Mamaw and Poppy got into watching those. They made it through 2 of the segments already and then decided to “give it a rest.”

I think we all kind of got the “blues” or the “ate too much stuff I shouldn’t have over the holidays” and there is no energy to be found around here. We’ve napped and done little else. No cooking at all today—just eaten leftovers out of the fridge.

It’s been so icy I haven’t begged to go out very much. I step foot past our overhang and I start slippin around. It’s hard to go potty without the slippage too…Mamaw came in and told Poppy “the weather is bad—it’s icy” and I thought—yeah, tell ME about it!

And there won’t be any Happy New Year party around here. Mamaw plans to be in bed by 11:00 snorin away catchin her Z’s. Guess that means no Happy New Year kisses either! So when SHE wanted to go back to bed, she made me stay with Poppy—she put that damned gate up to keep me out. Alright—I can take a hint! Want to spend time alone—well, ya just go for it!

I’m gonna just lay here with my Poppy and stay warm and out of trouble. See ya next year…
