TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2013 -- WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL THE ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE!

OMG—AM I IN TROUBLE! I thought for sure Mamaw had forgotten bout that time I went off chasin the deer—guess not! Dallas came to the basement sliding glass doors and I sneaked out afore she managed to hook me up. I love that too—all of that freedom to just go do as I please. And while I got long ears; when I getta chance to be free, I just shut those ears off! Need I say more?

Dallas did his thing—whatever that was. I did too, all the time I was free. I got my nose down to the grindstone and enjoyed every single one of those smells. I coulda cared less that Mamaw was tryin to come and get me. I just darted here and there and confused the hell outta her. It got dark too, and she didn’t have a light. After all, I was just supposed to go out in our backyard and play with Dallas for 5 minutes or so, pee and come right back to the house.
Well…since I didn’t do that I’m in the slammer! She came back to the house and tattled to my Poppy and along they both come, him carrying a flashlight and Mamaw with our little bittie broom she gets after me with sometimes. I knew then it was “curtains for me.”

I was comin their way and I saw the broom. Oh crap—she is royally pi**ed. I tried to just saunter up to them but Mamaw had that loud, harsh voice and she said, “Scarlett, go home.” Poppy’s voice was louder than it usually is and he said, “Scarlett, go home.” I went home alright—but didn’t get anywhere near them for fear I was gonna get hit with that damned broom.
Lickity split I got to the door—AND IT WAS CLOSED. Ya know what that means don’t ya? I probably got to come in contact with one of em. Poppy opened the door for me (and that’s probably a good thing cause Mamaw had already chased me a long time) and I slipped in, up the steps and into the living room. Well, what else could I do, she’s yellin “In the living room”! At that point, I knew better than to argue with her.

She came up and tole me “to stay” on the couch. I could tell she was furious with me. I just layed right there and tried to look as small as I could. She headed back down to her office where she wouldn’t have to look at me.
Poppy got my kennel from the basement and made me get in it! I knew it would be for all night; then I was kinda sorry I’d made Mamaw work so hard.

She had just done an afternoon of water therapy and I would have to be an idiot not to know she was feeling it.
If somebody out there has the guts to stand up against Mamaw, would you call the Animal Rescue League and see if they will come to my rescue?

APRIL 18, 2013 - WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE?

What a mess we got goin on here anyway…stuff is all goofy and it makes my tummy hurt!

Mamaw’s been plantin flowers—she was so anxious for spring—and now most of the basement is full of plants she can’t put outside with all of this rain! Weatherman says we’ve had more than 5 inches…I wait just as long as I can to go outside to do my business. I gotta get some smells under my belt before I go and I get all wet! Mamaw drives a hard bargain, she won’t undo my leash until I wait for her to dry my feet. Then she rubs that darned towel back and forth over my back till I can barely stand it! If anybody can get this rain to stop, I’d sure appreciate it a whole bunch.

We saw a wren coming and going from one of Mamaw’s hanging artificial planter, so she looked…AND LOOKED AGAIN…then she took the planter down and brought it in the house. You will never believe what we found in there! The wren was a MAMA and she made a really swell nest in there. She found 2 eggs in there! Mamaw said she had to take a couple of photos; which she did, and then she took it right back outside and hung the planter back up on the house.

Then she said, “Mama wren—I just can’t be a part of aborting your children, so you can have them here and teach them to fly from the nest but one thing I’m not going to do is put a bird bath up for you.”

The storms the last couple of days was a scary thing for me. I stayed as close to Mamaw as possible so she would be of comfort to me. And when Mamaw and Poppy go to bed, I jump up with them and insist on getting between em so I feel protected. The thunder and lightning has been really bad. Last night she closed both of the blinds in the bedroom so I could relax.

Did I tell ya Mamaw is taking a class? It's the college for old people and it's only 1 day a week, but she's enjoyin it. The class is France at a Glance, and her instructor asked her to give a little talk on Monday so she's been givin lots of attention to gettin that ready to go.

Nough said for now…happy high-five day!

April 1, 2013 -- MAMAW GAVE HERSELF A APRIL FOOL'S DAY!!

This morning Mamaw rolled outta bed at 7:00 a.m.—I couldn’t believe it! Usually when I kiss her, she just ignores me and goes back to sleep. Not today—she tells Poppy today is the first day of her new class, France from a Glance.”
Nothing was really different this mornin before she left…she just did everything earlier. And only 1 cup of hot tea today, she tole Poppy she hoped she could handle the day cause her quota is 2 a day.
She’s got this bag sittin on the kitchen table and she’s puttin everythin in there but her aqua therapy stuff. She tells us she is leaving class and getting the two errands taken care of; then she’d come home and change into her swimsuit. (She bought 2 new swimsuits, ya know.) The chlorine is really hard on the colors.
She waved goodbye to me and tole me to mind Poppy and off she went. It was a long morning—I waited a long time for her. Then about noon Poppy’s cell phone rings and I can tell it is our Mamaw. Well, don’t tell anyone, but she locked the keys in Lil Red…She was beggin him to take me for a ride (which I gladly accepted) and bring the extra key so we could “recue her.”
On the drive Poppy just tole me we gotta love Mamaw the way she is. She forgets lots and doesn’t get near as much done as she’d like to so let’s just give her a break today and not mention anythin about it. Poppy drives a long ways and unlocks her car. Then he goes into the library in Johnston and tells her she can get into her car now. I was tryin to see what was goin on when she came out but as hard as I stretched my neck, I just couldn’t get a glimpse of her. We left…post haste.
She comes along behind but Poppy never did see her in the rearview mirror. Just so happens though, that she got home bout the same time we did. She came in the house and said, “I wasn’t quite ready for this kind of day.” Poppy and me—we kept our mouths closed. I waited patiently for my nummy numbs cause it was time—and she got it around for me.
Then into the bedroom she goes and for heaven’s sakes—now she thinks it’s time to try on those new swimsuits! She was complainin about one bein the wrong size and the bottoms not coming all the way up to the waist and on and on. Poppy played it right and just kept workin at his computer—me on the other hand; I was right in the middle of it. Finally she said, I’m just gonna wear my old one today—if it falls apart—well, there ya go. So off she went again with a warning that she had the two errands to run when she was done with her water exercises cause she was locked outta her car. Silence prevailed.
She’s gone—Poppy and me are thinkin it’s so quiet we kinda like it that way for a while. But we don’t dare tell Mamaw.
See ya all around…
