We’re all kind of walking the floor and wondering what is going on with Sister Betty this morning. Mamaw doesn’t want to be outside for very long without the phone and Poppy is talking to his Mom in Fonda, IA. It kind of looks like we’ll have to play today by ear with all that is going on around here.
So, Mamaw begins the laundry. Poppy brought a whole bunch of dirty clothes “out of hiding” and she said, “My word Honey, where did you have all those clothes hidden”? Guess that tells you there’s gonna be laundry going on most of the day. She runs back and forth to and from the basement—either in the washer, in the dryer, or on hangers and laundry baskets. I’m gonna just work on my bone and behave cause she promised me we could go to the dog park today and I don’t want to make her take more time than she has to have. I really WANT TO GO!
Poppy is going to work—yes, call each other if we hear anything. I’m doing the watch dog thing and barking—I’m afraid too much—because she comes running out into the living room and gets after me. I don’t mean to bark—it just comes out all by itself when somebody goes by or I see a dog. Now if I didn’t do that, she’d be wondering why, wouldn’t she?
She finally got annoyed enough with me she said we were going to the park. Alright—now we’re talking. In the car and off we go with my bag over her shoulder filled with the stuff I’ll need there. We got there and entered the gate—she takes me off leash. At the time, there is only one dog there and soon they leave cause they said they’d been there a long time and the dog needed a nap. We hung around waiting—me with my nose through the fence talking to the “big boys” and getting acquainted with them.
Wow! About 5 or 6 dogs show up in a matter of about 10 minutes. Now we are going to have a ball! We all get along really well and we are havin the time of our lives. But not too much later, the sky gets dark and the humans think a storm is brewing. We’ll see…and then the thunder started and the one dog got very aggressive with a dog I really liked so I thought I’d better go ward him off. That dog just kind of went wild I tell you. He started in after me and I am whining and running to get away from him. Mamaw is fit to be tied—she told me to come to her. How dumb does she really think I am—go to her? I’ve got to run for my life!!! Finally the other dogs were rounded up and we all got our leashes hooked up. The other dog that went crazy was in the other half of the park and we were sure glad for that! We got the hell out of there. And barely in the car and heading home, the sky opened up and the rain started. I was so glad when we got home and in the house.
Okay, we’re home—what now? Oh my God the thunder starts again and I’m frightened. I’ll just go into my kennel for a while. And I stayed there till it was over—door standing wide open so I could come and go as I wished.
Poppy is home—I had to tell him about that “bad dog” and Poppy just said he thought it was probably the thunder that spooked the dog and not to worry about it. We play a little and then he says they gotta go to Mercy Hospital and see Betty. They weren’t gone as long tonight and I’m glad. But when we got home we found out there is no TV in the living room—bummer. Poppy doesn’t like it when that happens to him. He went to the waterbed and turned on the TV in there and walla—TV. So we all go in there and lie down on the bed to watch a little TV. Soon it will be time for bed—I think we are all tired tonight.
