January 31, 2010

It doesn’t seem possible that it is the last day of January; but COME ON SPRING! I’m looking forward to it and I guess maybe Mamaw and Poppy are too except they keep talking about how muddy it is going to be. Mamaw has worked with me about wiping paws each time we come back from outside so I’m going to be used to that when the wet and mud hit us.

I have a daily routine every time I go outside. You see, there is this mountain of snow all along our property that is humped up so big! I “walk the line” to and from each time. It’s become a ritual and it kind of pulls Mamaw’s arm a long way. My leash is 4’ and just allows for that ritual so she is struggling to stay out of the snow bank. I kind of like to see her when she is pulled into the bank though, she’s so surprised! I don’t do it often—really—I’m a good Scarlett. Mamaw doesn’t ever let me forget that I have a prestigious name I have to live up to. I have to keep the “devil” at arms length!

Our walk was cold. Mamaw didn’t give me a chance to poop before we started so along the way I had to “put the skids on” to get her attention. Yep—it’s time. Nothing to worry about—she always carries Kleenex and a plastic bag in her pocket for such occasions. I have to wonder what the neighbors think about her being so good about that. She even picks up after me in OUR YARD! Well, they should be appreciative and thankful cause I see lots of other dogs poops in our yard so I know they aren’t picking it up. When we got home, she carried a snowball in the house for me to eat while I sat on my rug. Yummm…Later we took another walk—she’s bound and determined to lose weight. She told Poppy she’s lost 10 lbs. in three weeks—isn’t that great? I help her out by letting her walk me whenever she wants to. (smile)
