We woke up this morning to this great big groundhog being held up by a fella in a tuxedo! I said, “Mamaw—are we dreamin or what?” She said, “Miss Scarlett—today is groundhog's day and they bring Punxsutawney Phil out of hibernation to see if he can see his shadow. If he doesn’t—we will have an early spring.” What a bunch of nonsense—spring will get here when the time is right for heaven’s sake! This Phil character is a camera hog and just wants to be on TV to get noticed—ya can’t kid me…It’s cold—and the big con artist did not see his shadow. Count the day’s folks, and let’s see if his prediction is correct!
Poppy had to trudge off in the snow and cold to go to work. We got his lunch fixed for him and said for him to be careful…
The shovelin people were here right after Mamaw shoveled our deck so she left the rest for them to do. She says that’s what they get paid to do. And it’s a good thing they are here too! Miss Becky’s walk is drifted up to Mamaw’s waist and when she looked out she wondered how she was gonna get to Ozzie today. Thank God—it’s gonna be shoveled.
A big tan truck with a snow shovel on it hit our mailbox (the one where the mail goes out) and broke it. Oh, oh, somebody is gonna be MAD! Aren’t we glad we didn’t do that Mamaw? Or Poppy either? That happened to us one time but we don’t want to talk about it again.
Today was telephone day. Mamaw’s son, Dan, called and they talked a long, long time. In Michigan EVERYTHING is closed so he had some time to visit and she loves it when that happens. She’ll share the conversation with Poppy tonight.
It’s a lazy day—but a writing day too. She loves that laptop and uses it every chance she gets. When it is time to go get Mr. Ozzie, she pushes the table out of her way and away we go. We really had to bundle up today—its SO COLD! Ozzie wasn’t interested in stayin out very long and then came to our house for most of the afternoon. He rushed right back to the bedroom lookin for Poppy and when he wasn’t there, he messed up all the pillows. Mamaw laughed—now if I’d done that she would have been mad—do ya hear me?—she’d been mad. I guess the neighbor’s dog has some privileges I don’t have…

Hi, Scarlett!
ReplyDeleteMy mom came in the house this afternoon after she took Ozzie out. I heard her tell Papa that you were outside with your Poppy and when you saw my mom walking Ozzie, you began to run toward him and then fell on your fanny and slid right up to him. My mom thought that was the cutest thing. I wish I could've seen it!
I got a new Mr. Squeak today. The squeaker in my old one didn't work anymore, so Papa brought one home with him this morning from Target. That sure made my day! Otherwise, I just keep curled up next to Mom, it's so doggone cold!
Stay warm, girl! Hope to run in to you one of these days!
Pepper
Oh yeah Pepper, I slid on my fanny alright! I had to ask Mamaw this mornin to check for bruises! Mamaw wonders if they have those funky gripper things for us to wear when it's slick outside?
ReplyDeleteAre ya good with the squeaker Pepper? Sometimes they are too big for my mouth but I just keep trying and trying. Ya know what? Remember the Christmas "plate of food" you gave me? Well, that 2-colored green "pull" toy has been catchin it! I got the knot out of one of those "legs" so I'm givin it a good goin over too!
Do ya think PHIL knows what he's talkin about? And early spring? I sure hope so--got spring fever around here and I'm needin a really good walk...
