I can’t believe Mamaw was up so early this morning—BEFORE DAYLIGHT! That’s a big change so course I begin to wonder what’s happenin…didn’t take long to find out.
Poppy hit the shower—Mamaw hit the shower—they both come out looked good enough to eat! Then I got out—and I mean OUT. I had to go BAD!! When we were outside I could just smell something different in the air—like; maybe a “road trip.” They tried to play it cool though so as not to get me “all shook up.” Poppy left for a while and when he got back, Mamaw went to that special coat closet and pulled out my bag. I ran right over to her cause I wanted to ask “THE QUESTION.” There was no need for that; she’s putting a container of food and a bottle of water in my bag AND I KNEW—did ya hear me? I KNEW! Poppy brought my extra kennel up and up it in his car.
It wasn’t Willie Nelson singin On the Road Again but it didn’t matter one way or the other to me. I WAS IN THE CAR! I WAS GOIN SOMEPLACE! I’M WITH MAMAW AND POPPY! Life just can’t get better than that~
When we started out I got to sit on her lap. I love that but I’ve figured out if it’s a long trip I always end up in the back of Poppy’s Lexus—on a red towel. Mamaw thinks we can be more comfortable if we both have our ‘own space.’ Suppose she’s right—and even if she wasn’t; she’d insist she was.
Before I could say, “Isn’t this fun” I was in the back seat. We drove up I-35 to Clear Lake and then over to Mason City. We’re goin to visit son, Mike, Stacey and Thea when she gets out of school. I didn’t like it when Stacie fixed cheese and crackers and I didn’t get any. But they have a cat they call Dale. Mike says he is “not quite right” whatever that means. I wanted to play but we took our time tryin to get him to “warm up” to me. Finally, Dale was presented to me and HE HISSED! I took offense to that cause I just love cats but maybe cause he isn’t quite right he didn’t know what to think of me. We got separated by two great big doors with glass in em and we admired each other through the glass. That’s as far as we got with that. I kept my mouth shut and observed—it was an interesting afternoon.
Thea came home from school and I really, really like her. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that little girl but she’s swell…I even performed a few of my tricks for her—ya know—just to make her happy.
Before ya knew it, I was in the kennel with the promise of them comin back after they had dinner to get me. I worried quite a bit about that when I finally just had to have a little talk with myself. “Scarlett, they aren’t going to go off and leave you for good, you are their precious commodity,” she remembered them sayin.
They came back real happy. Poppy drove em over to Clear Lake to The Half Moon cause they let Thea choose and that’s where she wanted to go. They were happy. Thea let me out of my kennel and boy was I ever glad to see them again! We didn’t hang there too long before Thea put me on my “short leash” and Poppy took my kennel out to the car. After he had that in the trunk and the car was warmed up, we got in the car. No riding on Mamaw’s lap this time—I went straight to the back seat. That’s perfect—I’m tired. I laid down on my bright red towel and gave a big sigh of relief. Willie—we’re on the road again...
