I sure hope Mamaw isn’t goin to be on the phone all day—her sister, Mary called and they yakked and yakked—seemingly having a wonderful visit. I can’t figure out why they’re talking that long on the phone for God’s sake—they are getting together tomorrow for lunch! Sometimes humans are just too hard to try to figure out!
Poppy got asked to work for a while today. I sure didn’t want him to but he says, “When duty calls—I answer.” He’s really a wonderful guy but he’s gotta get well. Mamaw thinks he is too pale and thinks he’s lost weight too! Now she on the other hand, she has gained 5 lbs. and she can’t stand to look at herself in the mirror. When she is sick she keeps eatin—just tryin to feel better. She’s gotta git a grip on that!
Since we didn’t have Ozzie duty at noon, Mamaw spent her day workin on that novel. Oh, she didn’t have Ozzie duty cause she was supposed to meet a friend at Brass Armadillo but she had to cancel. Mamaw just decided to use the time to her advantage. So, click, click, click—tap, tap, tap—I NAPPED!
Poppy got home about 1:00 p.m. and caught us on the bed. Mamaw said, “Well Poppy, Miss Scarlett has begged to come back to bed since you left for work.” Do ya believe that? If ya do I got an old bone I’ll sell ya. I fell asleep and Mamaw didn’t want to disturb me so she stayed a while too. Then she quietly got out of there without me knowin it. I slept and slept. Maybe I got that same “whatever is ailed them” too!
“Miss Scarlett—it’s Mr. Oz time,” she said and I was out the door like a cannon! The old boy came out and we went down to the trail again. Yes, she made we use my leash but that’s okay—I was with lover boy. We found a bone down there and was she ever upset! Cause we both wanted a taste of it and she was mad that somebody would be dumb enough to throw a chicken or turkey bone out. Well—we shared—now I hope we don’t get sick from it!
We came back to our house and Ozzie went crazy over My Poppy again! I think he expects to have too much attention from him and I’m getting kinda disgusted. Now don’t get me wrong—I love him but POPPY IS MINE! I will share—but that only goes so far don’t ya know? I finally went over to Poppy and slid in there as close as I could get. Then Ozzie comes along and wants to get there too with his big head and I gave him a dirty look. Mamaw finally instructed him to lie down—he did. We got our SNAPS—4 and 2—nothing changes around here. And when she took him home, she wouldn’t let me come along! She grabbed the shovel on her way and stayed there a long time trying to get some of the melted water and ice chunks off Miss Becky’s walk so it isn’t so dangerous. Mamaw says its “an accident waitin to happen.”
For dinner Mamaw made the nicest cod—with wild rice. They both raved about it but nobody gave me a chance to taste it. I got 4 little pieces of veggies—that’s it folks! And after dinner she click, click, click—tap, tap, tap some more. Poppy asked how many pages she had and she told him 384. She’s comin along real good. I think she’d like to have the novel finished by spring so she can dedicate more time to her walks. She’s gained 5 lbs. ya know—isn’t happy. And when Mamaw ain’t happy—ain’t nobody happy. You know the drill…
I slept on the waterbed until 2:00 a.m. this morning…love it, love it, love it.
