Mamaw was up very, very early this morning—cookin! The kids are comin (except for those in Michigan) and she’s a little sad…But she greeted me with HO, HO, HO—MERRY CHRISTMAS! Bah, humbug…
When she was getting herself all duded up for the day, she was sittin on the edge of the waterbed tryin to put on her “sockies” and I tried and tried to get each of them…and do you know what she told Poppy? She said, “Miss Scarlett is never satisfied—I gave her one of my old socks and she isn’t happy with that. She is a “sock-o-holic”—one sock is too many and a hundred is not enough.” Boy—she hit the nail on the head on that one…suppose that’s how she feels about falling off the bandwagon with her diet?
Mamaw is in the kitchen trying to get all of the stuff put together for her kids and grand kids—the chili is on (smells good too) and she’s got all kinds of dips and crackers and cheese and vegetables—way more than the “crew” will eat. Poppy told her she plans TOO MUCH STUFF (I for one think he is right but we gotta let HER figure that out).
Deb and Hayleigh were first to arrive—they brought their “nothing elephant gifts”—so far so good. And she brought a great big box filled with goodies too! I can tell ya the table isn’t goin to be big enough….
Then there is a knock at the door and when it Mamaw opened it there was Dodi, Emily, Ashton AND JARIS! She was so happy—hasn’t seen this guy since before she and Poppy got married 9 years ago. “Welcome, welcome Jaris—it’s so good to see you,” she said and hugged him till I thought he was gonna pass out! They didn’t bring their “nothing white elephant gifts” so she’s gonna have to get creative or something—she hadn’t planned on that though.
The day was okay—it was pretty noisy and I’m not used to that. Mamaw had a gift or two for each person and I don’t know HOW SHE DOES IT—she even found something for Jeris. Ya see she didn’t even know he was comin so she had to go in search of…
It was Christmas here—not much else can be said about that. They ate, drank, and visited back and forth with each other. Mamaw and Poppy both had Christmas cards for each other (mushy as always don’t ya know?)—then everybody eventually went home. I got all tired out with the festivities and ended up goin to my kennel for a nap. I can share some news with ya though—I fell in love with Jeris at first sight and I think he fell for me at the very same time. She invited him back ANY TIME.
Mamaw and Poppy had to have a nap by then too. Then they both got up and cleaned up the mess! Lots of leftovers we don’t know what to do with—we’ll worry about that tomorrow…"tomorrow, tomorrow—tomorrow is just a day away."
Later a movie, the waterbed and then to my bed. “Can we have a little quieter day tomorrow,” I asked?—they smiled…
