Oh yeah—up early I guess! They were almost all ready to go when they got me up to go potty. They try to stay calm so I don’t get excited but I can tell ya, when Poppy gets his keys off the hook and Mamaw open my bag to check on “supplies”—I’M EXCITED!!! There is just nothing I like better with them than to get on Mamaw’s lap and ride, ride, ride. They visit and discuss stuff and she touches me and kisses my neck and oh God—it’s just delicious. And—it’s a long ride. Elvis Presley was signin his heart out this mornin. We stop along the way one time for me to relieve myself before we got to our destination.

The destination? A HUGE FUNERAL HOME for God’s sake. And they take me in there. Now I’m hopin they aren’t getting any ideas about putting me in one of those casket things and closing the lid on me. I don’t mind the cover-up at night when it is bedtime but I am not going to stand still for THAT! We looked around and found out the stuff Poppy wanted to know and leave. I’m invited to relieve myself again and I really needed that—SCARED THE PEE RIGHT OUTA ME I tell ya.

I thought we were going to see Mom at her house but was I surprised when they stopped AT THE NURSING HOME! Oh no—what happened to Mom??? They didn’t let me go in at first. I had to stay in the car but it was okay—not hot—not cold and Poppy opened that top thing a little so I had some air. Well I wasn’t there long and here she came to get me. She said she gave the nurse my vaccination papers and she said I could go see Mom. I proudly walked in there and everybody that saw me walking down to Mom’s room said, “Oh, what a pretty dog, isn’t she cute, look how well behaved she is.” I’ll tell ya—I ate it up! We got to the room and NO MOM. We waited and waited and FINALLY she came. She had just had a nice shower and she said they put oil all over her when she was done—said it felt nice. She was so excited to see me! And I thought she looked WONDERFUL—so did Poppy and Mamaw. Poppy sat on her bed and I just jumped up and lay beside him and enjoy smellin her bedding. We were talking about goin on vacation next month and she wanted them to bring me to their house. Mamaw said, “Oh Mom, we are taking Miss Scarlett with us.” Whew—I was kinda worried for a minute or two. Time to leave there…

We drove a little way and Poppy pulled in a driveway. Mamaw and I stayed in the car. Pretty soon Poppy came out and said to bring me in the house. He was visitin an old friend and they talked about the people they knew and about old times. We stayed about an hour and back in the car with Elvis singin his heart out. On the drive to our next destination, Mamaw had to call Dutch and Joyce and tell em they were runnin just a little late. Oh—now I know where we’re goin—back to Fort Dodge.

I was in the back seat takin a really nice little nap and enjoyin the sun and the music and the conversation and we pull into a driveway. At this point, Poppy “pops” the trunk and pulls out my kennel. Oh God—not that! He drags it down a basement and Mamaw carries me down and shoves my butt right into the thing. “You be good now, Miss Scarlett, we’re goin to go have a drink with our friends and you can’t come cause they serve food.” I’m getting so sick of hearin that. It was warm—I was tired—just GO I thought!

Back they come, happy, happy, happy and get me. They are all lovey dovey to me like they know they didn’t do ME any favors.

We drive a little further and—trust me—I’m getting kinda tired of Elvis. But if I thought that was bad—get THIS!!!! Poppy pulled in a driveway with so much Halloween stuff in the yard it literally scared the hell out of me. I started to pray to God to get me out of there! Thank God, Mamaw picked me up and carried me in. Inside the house it was just as bad! A black Christmas tree for heaven’s sake—with all kinds of Halloween decorations on it. And witches, and goblins and scary stuff. Now I don’t mean scary stuff as such—I mean scary stuff! I wanted to investigate but sort of held back a little—just a little sniff maybe. Regina and Catherine was there and then Jonathon came home and they shoved me in the kennel AND LEFT ME THERE With all that stuff. I just feel like they are gonna get me so I’m shrinkin myself up as much as I can and maybe THEY won’t see me.

I was never so glad in all my life to see em come back for me. I had to pee, I had to poop, but I’m definitely NOT DOING IT IN THIS YARD. I’ll hold it till I get to my own “dog friendly yard.”

Mamaw drove home and Poppy let me be on his lap all the way home. Sometimes I just cuddled up under his neck and sometimes I took a little—what do they call it—a cat nap? When she hit highway 141, Poppy said, “Miss Scarlett, we’ll be home in about 20-30 minutes.” I wanted to jump for joy but have to go potty so better just keep puckerin things so they stay where they belong.

Home sweet home! Straight out of the car I did my business right there where I felt comfortable. It was an aw-ha moment. (That’s what Oprah calls it). Good night Mamaw and Poppy—had a wonderful day. But you don’t need to be in any hurry to take me back to that awful Halloween house…
