We’re still workin real hard to get ready to leave on our trip. Mamaw got the rest of her outside decorations in the basement. She said she’s gonna leave the two wooden pumpkins out and hopes nobody takes them. She picked up some more leaves that furrowed into a circle on the lower deck and loaded all her bags in the car. Tomorrow is disposal day.

She got a call from her sister, Pat, in Texas and while on the phone she began to cry. Pat told her that she is terminal with gangrene. She’s had years of sores that wouldn’t heal and Mamaw always thought it was diabetes but no—gangrene. The doctor’s want to remove her leg but she said, “no way” to that. They talked a long time and Mamaw cried a long time too.

After she got some control over her crying, she pushed me in the kennel and I wasn’t goin to complain at that point. I did wonder, though, what she was gonna do now. Well, when she got back from bein gone for a LONG TIME, she told me she had driven over to the Mall and walked and walked. She even saw Poppy briefly as he took a little break.

And Becky called in the evening with bad news too! Cully’s tumors are growing again so they are gonna start him on a different chemo treatment. She said he is coming home today and asked Mamaw if she would get the key and take all the stuff sitting at their door in the house so it would be out of the way when they brought him home. Mamaw promised she’d do it first thing in the morning so she had all the newspapers.

I wonder if that means Ozzie gets to come home too? I miss him (but very glad he’s not stayin with us any longer—no house is big enough for two dogs! I would like to see him though, before we leave on vacation. We’ll have to wait and see.

Poppy was so tired he didn’t even eat dinner. Mamaw had a bowl of cereal and told me it’s all that “gaddin about” he does on his days off. I think she’d like a little more help around the house…cause she does ALL THE OUTSIDE WORK!
