Mamaw is up—Oh, Oh—this isn’t good! The cold has her…no church today—sorry—I want to load up and head home so I can “get under the porch.” Alright—let’s get movin then! Poppy did most of the packin up but Mamaw felt responsible for the potted plants she put together so she helped. I was underfoot so bad she put me in the backseat—guess that means I’m not ridin on her lap for a ways. But—it means they aren’t gonna forget to take me home with them!
Kim was a real sweetheart and fixed Mamaw a big, huge container of hot lemon tea and sent another bag along with her. We’re in the car and off we go. Kim has her own problems—people who are supposed to be at the church doin their jobs DIDN’T SHOW UP TODAY and alarms are goin off everywhere…poor Kim.
It was pretty darned quiet in the car…I slept and Mamaw dropped off to sleep from time to time. She asked Poppy if he found a McDonalds to please get her a Smoothie cause her throat hurts lots! He did—she drank it—she’s sleepin again. Further down the road she makes the same request—he did—she drank it—she’s SLEEPIN AGAIN! I sure hope she’s gonna be okay…
She got a phone call from the guy who is gonna fix our windows. He wants to come tomorrow and get as much done as possible cause the weather is supposed to be really nice. She isn’t crazy about it but said to come…some of the work is in the bedroom so Mamaw won’t be able to be in there. Well Poppy said, “Let’s just get it done.” Okay…they’re comin at 9:00 a.m.
And then she rallied a little and drove for a while so Poppy could rest. It’s still pretty darned quiet…and then Poppy said he’d drive again and before we knew it—we were in Newton! Mamaw was so happy! Got home and dragged the stuff in the house. Mamaw said she didn’t care if stuff was sittin in the middle of the floor when the worker comes tomorrow—she wanted to take a peak at the newspapers from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And then Poppy went out and got some milk and came back with a “surprise dinner” for he and Mamaw. She was pleased with that too (smile). They ate…watched some TV…I went to bed on my own. I’m not stayin up…and then she went to bed too. Great vacation~~~but there’s no place like home…

- Since 1982 I have wanted to write a book. But it was never possible for me to dedicate myself to writing so I pushed it aside. Permanent retirement caught up with me in March 2010. I began writing that novel and it is finished; now in its 4th editing. And during that time, I've become selfish about having it published. You see, it is a true story--MATCH.COM--and much too intimate to share with the masses. It is being held back for family and friends to enjoy at the proper time. And as previously mentioned, Miss Scarlett came into our lives at just the right time to completely enjoy her. She had a voice in this house from the very beginning and wanted to share feelings from her point of view from the beginning--I gave her that audience. Then she decided to take a break for nearly a year--she is back folks!
