Oh man, the girls were gone when Tess and I got up this morning. Wonder if they’ve been out all night for this crazy Thursday or Thanksgiving shopping day or whatever they decided to call it. Goofy times for each store to open so they gotta get their thoughts together on paper so they know where to go first. And the phone rang about 8:00 a.m. and Deb says they are standing in line at Gordman’s—it was gonna take 45 minutes to an hour. Mamaw said, “Miss Scarlett, I’m sure glad I didn’t go with em!”
She was kinda worried about getting to of us girls out to do our duty at the same time so would you believe
it—SHE TOOK TESS FIRST! Now, how do you like those apples huh? But she came and got me just right away when she was done with Tess and took me. She fed Tess first and I was about to blow my stack!!! She said, “Scarlett—have I taught you nothing at all? Guests are first.” Oh—forgot in my moment of jealousy. “Gotcha Mamaw—I’ll remember next time.”
I got a short ride today—Poppy drove us downtown to the Des Moines Register for Mamaw to pick up The Lettermen tickets she won. She came out of the building waving em high—wish we’d had the camera for that one. And then we stop to pick up some color ink—Mamaw is doin her thing again. (smile) PetSmart was next and I pulled and pulled on my short leash—I couldn’t get to LuAnn fast enough!!! Maybe I shouldn’t a been so excited—I had to stay there…
Yep, she fixed my ears and took all that hair out of the pads of my feet the way Miss Jessica; the vet said we needed to do before winter. Yeah all you dog owners out there, Miss Jessica says that the snow and ice will build up in there and make it hard for your pet. Think about it!
Then she got brave and took both of us girls out (on different leashes)—shoulda seen that! What a picture that would have made too! Where’s the camera when ya need it huh? Anyway, we criss-crossed each others’ paths and then we would tangle and oh she was glad to be done with that! And Poppy and Mamaw fixed brunch for them before they left. They were already kinda tired but wanted to get to Fort Dodge to see Miss Cathy—she’s gonna be 20 years old on Monday! I can’t even begin to know how old that would feel…yea gads!
I was so excited though when Poppy shook his keys and asked if I wanted to go for a ride! It’s all I can do not to pee myself…and here comes the kennel so I know it’s not just a “ride” ride. Off we go with all the provisions any good looking red head might need along the way and I found myself in the back seat. Hey—it’s more comfortable for me and for Mamaw and I can keep a good eye on both of them at the same time.
I told ya about their good friends didn’t I? Dutch and Joyce? Mamaw and Poppy just love em and every time they go to Fort Dodge they like to meet at Third Base for a drink with them. They’re getting older too so they want to spend as much time with em as possible. Poppy takes my kennel down in the basement and I stay in there till they come back to get me.
Jon has the shingles—Mamaw says they are PAINFUL cause she has had em too! But he feels good enough to go out to eat so I was kenneled. Poppy took em all out to eat and they had a really nice time. He got “little gifts” for each one of them from Notre Dame and handed them out too. They are so funny to watch. Mamaw wanted to hand em out right away and Poppy said, “Oh, we should wait until Kurt gets home” so we waited…and waited…and finally Poppy just started in handed em out AND KURT WASN’T HOME YET! Mamaw teased him good about that I can assure ya.
Mamaw drove home…Poppy rested…I was good. Now its bedtime so we’ll see ya all tomorrow.
