Up early, early, early! It’s funeral day today. Another trip to Denison to lay to rest a wonderful family man. I wouldn’t begin to be bad today—this is tough on Mamaw and Poppy! And Deb Blume is coming by to ride with them so behave Scarlett.
No problem there—she rousted me from bed at 5:00 a.m. and outside in the dark we go. I get both of my businesses done right away cause I didn’t get out much yesterday. And then just before Deb was to arrive, I got outside and did it all again—that made Mamaw happy. She knows I’ll be able to hold the fort down until they can get back home today. And Mamaw is just going to get me in the kennel right now so they’re ready to pull out of the driveway when Deb gets here. Oh—they’re loadin up…good luck today.
Mamaw says at the church it was packed! And the family room is almost full. They go to the back of the family room to sit and wait cause they know there’s more important people to go into the church ahead of them. Poppy said Father Kelly gave a really nice prayer and Mamaw was runnin around getting pictures she knows Miss Betty is goin to want. She’s really good at that—do ya think she thinks she’s a budding photographer or what?
It was a long, sad day I’ve been told. My family came home exhausted—but you know Mamaw. Outside she goes with the gate; I’m next (I have to sit out on the deck and watch her pick up those awful crab apples) and then she’s bendin this way and that way with another half grocery bag of apples. She tells Poppy they smell good but she’s got to haul them off too! And after that, did she rest? Heck no—she started pulling the weeds and grass that has filled in her rocked in area around the big tree. Poppy says that doin that stuff is therapeutic to Mamaw—he says he’s not into that at all. Don’t blame ya Poppy—think I like sittin out there waitin on her? Give me a BREAK!!!
Poppy fixed a quick hamburger and Mamaw put some fruit on the table and they pretty much ate in silence—both very tired. After dinner Mamaw put that darned gate up so I couldn’t come back to the waterbed with her. I know when she does that it means she’s going to sleep. Rest good Mamaw—hope an Angel will see to that. I’m stayin with Poppy…see ya tomorrow.
