Today is Miss Betty’s conference at skilled nursing so Mamaw was up and at it early getting ready. She made sure she took care of me and my needs but was out the door with any lovin. She said she was gonna curl her hair so she’s look and feel real pretty for this meeting. Poppy will be goin off to work too but I got to be out of the kennel till Poppy had to leave. At least when he put me in the kennel I didn’t feel like “I was in the slammer!
When she walked in the door later, she had Miss Betty’s laundry so I went straight to the basement and we worked on that right away. I’m hoping to get my mouth on a pair of her clean panties after they are washed and hanging over the bathtub. Just gotta have some patience is all.
Mamaw began her daily computer work and I was just dictatin about too fast for her. And then the phone rang—it was Poppy. “O Lord Mamaw, bring me some supplies—my nose is runnin,” so she just left everything the way it was and gathered up handkerchiefs and medicine. She didn’t even both to put me in the kennel, she just ran out the door! I thought she was gonna be right back but low and behold, it was a long time. I scolded her…that’s when she told me that Poppy was available when she went to dilate her eyes and see what was goin on that she was complainin about not seein so good. She didn’t leave her glasses cause she can’t see without em. On Saturday she’ll go to Merle Hay and have her new lenses made. In the meantime, we gotta go huntin for glasses she can get by with for now. Poor Mamaw—she thinks she’s fallin apart…
We finished the laundry and Mamaw took me for a ride. We went back to see Poppy and take his suit jacket to him cause he has an event at Wolfe Clinic after work and he thought the medication had helped some. Well, she double-parked (don’t tell anyone) and ran that in. A very pretty lady came back to the car to see me. She was just so pretty I couldn’t settle down and shake hands with her. Then we went to the gas station and gassed the car. Mamaw ran in and paid for the gas and got her FREE Des Moines Register.
At home she read that darned paper from front to back. Now, by this time I’m a little disgusted. I didn’t feel like I’d had much attention all day so I started in on her newspaper and just kept it up till she would play “tug” with me. Mamaw and I had to eat dinner alone with Poppy gone but I GOT NONE.
I went to the waterbed with her to watch her next favorite show, The Good Wife and she told me I better be good or I was goin out in the living room with Poppy! She meant it too—I could tell by the sound of her voice. And Poppy was sick so what could I do…
