Today is OUR day—we’re goin to the Pappajohn Sculpture Park downtown to get me some art education. We’re all up early and then…outside is cold—windy—rainy. Good Lord, what happened? Poppy says let’s wait and see what the weather does a little later. I’m okay with that for now.

Mamaw grabs her dusting rag and off she goes to the office—that means Poppy has to use his laptop. Boy, she is spending a long time in there too. I’ll bet you every piece of paper gets dusted! I’m tryin to stay in there with her but I’m getting in the way so she keeps shooing me out of there. I just wanta make sure she doesn’t throw anything of mine out with the bath water!

Wow—when she is done it sure smells nice though…

The weather has gone from bad to worse—it is raining “cats and dogs” and we don’t wanta be out in that, that’s for sure. Mamaw decides she’ll wash the towels; including the one I threw up on the other day. It takes a long time to get that done cause first she washes THAT in warm water to get “the you know what off” and then she adds the rest of the towels and launders again. It was still raining after the towels were washed and dried so Mamaw is sitting in the living room folding them.

They talked about a nice drive to Ankeny so Mamaw could pick up some carpet stuff that she can only get there—we didn’t do that either. And, as the afternoon wore on, it was apparent that my birthday coupon was not going to get used today. What can I say? Don’t worry—be happy…

Then she goes out to her car and brings in a huge green looking box. She starts going through her closets (yes, I said closets and was folding clothes and putting them in that box. She went back and forth and back and forth till I tell ya, I WAS DIZZY! She says she’s organizing for the fall and winter season. “Well, why are ya putting stuff in the green box?” I asked her. And she said, “Those items are going to the shop that resells them and donates the money to the Alzheimer’s home on the east side of town.” Mamaw says that’s what she does to give back to the community—donates her clothes. Ya better watch out Poppy, she’ll be given everything away and she’ll be out buying more and more…Oops—better keep my mouth shut.

Dinner time came and Poppy grilled Iowa Chops—they said it was good; how would I know? I still lay between them while they eat just hoping for something to drop on the floor or for a wee bite…didn’t happen.
