When Mamaw took the towel off my den this morning, she was staring into my black eyes. I was awake quite a while but didn’t let out a peep. Cooler today…no messing around outside.

Poppy and Mamaw worked together on making a mighty fine breakfast. I love to see them sit together and eat a meal. Of course, Poppy has to work today and she told him her day was going to be very busy. She saw a new George Foreman advertised for $17 and they really need a new one. Since it will be too cold to BBQ, they will use that a lot this winter. She brought in all kinds of sacks filled with goodies. She bought groceries too! She always makes me stay in my kennel until she puts everything away and then she tends to me. I guess she wants me to learn that I’m don’t get Top Dog Priority (TDP) as soon as she walks in the door. That’s okay, she is always very organized about getting the sacks emptied and put away.

No walk today—what’s up? Oh, I get to go in the car. I am shivering because I don’t know where we are going and what we are going to do. Mamaw was very careful driving me, petting me and telling me everything was okay from the start of our trip to the end. We’ve gone to PetSmart—I smell the joint and don’t want to go in. That is where I went to get a bath and all that jazz. I am not in the mood for any of this nonsense. Well, we go in (she is dragging me of course) and start to walk around—of course I am on leash. I see big dogs, little dogs, aggressive dogs and shy dogs. And, I get excited with every one of them. Mamaw tries to hold me back so I don’t scare them but I just can’t sit down and stay still. It is so much fun to see the sizes, shapes and colors of the other dogs. We saw a couple of cats but the owners carried them around so I didn’t get to see any of them. Oh my God! She is dragging me into the grooming room! Mamaw asks if we can get my nails trimmed.

I have to go with Dani but I keep looking for Mamaw to rescue me. Dani told her to leave and come back in about 10 minutes so she did. When she came back to get me, she had a cart with my dog food in it and two packages of my special treats. Thank God—I love them and will work really hard to get them. We are walking around some more and believe me, I AM TIRED! I laid down on the floor and refused to budge. Mamaw gave me a smile and said, “Oh Miss Scarlett, you are tired aren’t you”? And she picked me up and put me in the cart. I had a great time then—sitting there just like a human taking it all in. I was an excellent young lady while there—even Mamaw said so. And as soon as Poppy walked in the door, she told him too. She says all of this time spent training me is worth it. We adore each other. We drove back home and I whined a little all of the way. She decided I was too tired to entertain myself so she put me in the kennel for a little nap. Thank you, Mamaw!
