Niece, Kim called this morning and told Mamaw they took her sis, Rita off the respirator at 9:30 p.m. and she was gone by 10:45. A quick shower and she’s ready to run wherever she is needed. Poppy got all dressed up too. He let me out this morning. Oh, that’s right, Poppy has a test at Iowa Radiology this morning.

In the meantime, I am just torn up that Mamaw is so sad and I guess I’m not handling it the way I should because she put me in the kennel. The phones rang and rang and she called people and oh, what a busy time. She finally gets to sit down and look at the paper but I could tell she really wasn’t all that interested in it. And, to top it all off, e-mail has been giving them trouble for a couple of days and she would like to notify people that way so it is very frustrating to her.

When Poppy came home he was pale. He grabbed something to eat and Mamaw said he should go back in the bedroom and rest so we wouldn’t bother him. She can’t sit still—therefore, neither can I.

The big tractor came along and cleaned the sidewalk. They spread snow all over our deck and walk again so Mamaw is out scooping again. I wish she didn’t have to work so hard! Then she came in and got me to go play in the snow. Today I really went wild and jumped up and down in the drifts. Lord, I love the taste of snow…

Oh my God! Mamaw took me for a little walk, and fell on her BUTT~I cried and cried. She kept trying to let me know she was okay but I gotta tell ya—it took her a while to get up. And of course she was all worried about whether someone had seen her. WOMEN—Oh! I guess I almost qualify for that description.

Mamaw tried a new theory with me. She put me on my 4-ft leash and hung it around the door knob. She said, “STAY” over and over again; giving me a “treat” from time to time. She left me there while she prepared dinner and they ate. I suppose this will be a new approach to training.
